Great idea to help kids understand Economics with real people
Great book and concept. My kids are both reading the stories.

Great book for Junior High School
This is a book of vignettes concerning people from all over the world in various economic situations. I used it as as reader in my eighth grade unit on economic geography. The students found it very helpful to read about real people in real situations. It was a hit!

I highly recommend it.
A real eye-opener.This book makes economics accessible to everyone by giving it a human touch. While traditional textbooks and newspapers throw fancy terms around, this book actually illustrates how economics impact people's daily life. A real eye-opener. I highly recommend it.

Sexist and misses the mark
I was excited for this since there are very few books on Economics for kids. When I began reading the story for Supply and Demand I was surprised to find how sexist the story was. The character is looking for a wife that will cook well for him, iron his shirts, and help him in the business. This is not something I want to read to my two young daughters. I showed my husband and he was just as disappointed. I think this is an honest try, but it seems the author knows economics but doesn't know how to write for children, and more so, does not understand that even the examples and situations chosen for children can greatly impact them and their understanding of acceptable norms. I returned the book because this is not acceptable material to read to my children.
