Pretty good chicken teriyaki.
To be honest, this Mountain House Chicken Teriyaki is pretty good. However, I'm accustomed to teriyaki chicken being a little different. I prefer it as grilled chicken with onions and pineapple over steamed white rice. But there are many ways to make a teriyaki dish. This is not to say that this chicken teriyaki is bad, far from it. I enjoyed it.This dish comes with rice, and chicken that's not been grilled. It doesn't have pineapple, but does have peas, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, bell peppers and onions. All of which I like in this dish. The teriyaki sauce is worked through the dish, but that's unavoidable considering it's been freeze-dried. The flavor of their teriyaki is appropriate, not bad but not the best sauce I've tasted. I'd say the flavor is good.I recommend this chicken teriyaki. The pouch --Like some other brands I've tried, this one comes in a pouch. The pouch design deserves to be discussed too. The idea in these pouches of freeze-dried food is that they're easy to carry in a backpack, without refrigeration, and that they have a long shelf life. So the pouch design plays its role in this. The pouch is made of thick strong material. It has an aluminized interior surface, which is excellent for trapping the heat (or cold if called for). It's thermal insulation. This helps keep the food at the right temperature for longer. The pouch also has a zip-lock top so it can be sealed to trap the steam, allowing the food to be thoroughly re-hydrated.The bottom of the pouch is pleated, with the sides going straight down, which makes it very stable as it stands upright. This is important to help with pouring in the water and stirring without knocking over. Because of the thickness of the material when you expand the bottom to make it stand upright it helps the top stay wide open too. With just one hand the water can be poured in, the opening is wide enough.

Not the best Mountainhouse meal, but not too shabby.
I love most Mountainhouse meals, but I've found that chicken can be a bit iffy and hard to re-hydrate. Additionally, the rice products aren't my favorite. That being said, this was not bad. As with most of the products, they call for too much water and can be a bit soupy. I usually use a bit less water. The flavor was pretty good and it was certainly filling.I'd give it a shot and see for yourself, you may like it

GREAT dried meal at a good price, better than DICK's Sporting goods prices
Mountain House dried meals are the best of the ones I have used over the years. Some selections are better than others of course and the Chicken Teriyaki with Rice for this review is really good. It's tasty without being overly salted like some competitors. The portion is accurate and filling. In this case the portion of chicken to rice is decent for these kinds of meals admittedly smaller pieces to allow for rapid re-hydration. However, there was a decent amount. You can make it wherever you are so long as you can measure and boil the water (I recommend carrying a Sunday Spoon (long handled spoon) with you. I will buy again.I use and recommend these for:* My hurricane prep kit (I live in FL so you have to have at least 3-days provisions on hand)* As meal planning for when I travel to remote locations for SCUBA diving* I keep a couple in my carry on when I travel for work just in case I am delayed in a remote airport for weather to avoid vending machines and junk food options----------------------------------------------------------NOTE: Having priced these from multiple sources, Amazon's prices are better than my local brick and mortar sellers like Dick's Sporting Goods and Walmart.

Real food, great taste
I was interested in seeing what the Mountain House Chicken Teriyaki looked like outside of the pouch. Per other reviews, cut the water by 1/4 cup and also let it sit for 15 minutes before eating. You can see from the photo that this reconstitutes beautifully -- real food texture, not mushy or grainy. Excellent taste. Two people who are medium-hungry could count on this as a satisfying meal. In an emergency, you could always stretch by adding plain rice, bread, veggies, etc. A couple of #10 cans are definitely joining our hurricane supplies.

4-stars on concept, taste yet-to-be determined
I bought these to add to our family's "emergency preparation" supplies. As many people here in Southern California know, and as people all over the USA should know: you must plan for emergencies, natural disasters, etc.! This includes water, food, medications, first aid supplies, pet needs, and many other things! These Mountain House products have many years of shelf life and are far superior in price to meals-ready-to-eat a la military rations. Please don't depend on government agencies to come to your aid in the case of natural disasters..prepare yourselves!
