Quality Grab Bar
AquaSense Knurled Chrome Grab Bar with Rotating Flange is of superior quality than what is presently available on Amazon. The end pieces on the AquaSense are either cast in a mold or machined, I would say cast. What is available today, the pieces are cheaply made, stamped from sheet metal and very thin. The end piece that attaches to the wall appears to be thin zinc. I had bought the AquaSense bars back in 2017, so I went to my past Amazon orders, looked them up, and I was able to order three 16-inch grab bars. The other day I also found the 24-inch version but today I am unable to access it. These are so superior to what is available today. When I install them, I use a stud finder and screw them directly into the stud. Any other way I don't consider safe. Good Luck.

Changed out other bars for the AquaSense
I have purchased a few grab bars in the last few years attempting to make my parents house safer for them! The AquaSense Knurled Chrome Grab Bar has been one of the better ones I have used! I have even removed a few and bought these to replace! They are heavy duty and easy to install! I’ve put them in there bedroom and their bathroom and even in their shower with some caulk added and it is working great! They have a few different sizes that you can pick from! The only thing I do have to say is I wish they would use a stainless steal screw, the bar is heavy duty and the screws they provide work but I think it would work better with the heavier screw! The texture on the bar is great it really does help when you have wet or hands that have lotion on them! A few of them have been on the wall well over a year now and they are still there and it has not come loose!

Terrific grabar!
I ordered this in Feb.2018 shortly before my husband was scheduled for major surgery. He installed it by the door going into the house from the garage. There's a steep step there, so we were worried he'd have trouble getting into the house. This grab bar is perfect. My husband was able to install it on the wood trim around the door without difficulty and it is stable and sturdy. I didn't expect I'd use it, but I find myself using it all the time when I'm carrying an armload of groceries and struggling to get in the door. Recently my sister-in-law, who was recovering from knee replacement surgery, visited us and she thought it was a great help, too. The textured surface allows you to get a good secure grip. We highly recommed this grab bar.

it's impossible for the 12" grab bar to work into two studs. (Unless you design your home around the grab bar.)
First of all let me say this was perfect for an additional grab rail near the door of my RV.I'm going to use plywood inserts and then 1/4" machine screws. I don't have access to the area behind the wall. But let's be honest for you home users. The grab bar is 12" long. The instructions say to be sure you use the screws into a stud. Studs are on 16" centers. So it's impossible for the 12" grab bar to work into two studs.Next. The holes in the flange are two inches apart. A stud is 1.5". How will anyone put both screws into a stud? Even the pictures shown are wrong. They picture studs being 2 1/2".Get a 16" bar and put it horizontally or the 24" on a diagonal. The flange can be positioned any way. There's a machine screw that you can tighten to prevent the flange from moving or rattling. Obviously, with the bar vertical and the flange vertical, you have a problem tightening a screw under the handrail!Other than the obvious design issues, it was perfect for me. The quality seems first class, and the handle sturdy.

Got two of these bars; 24" bar was 5-star good, 16" bar arrived w/ chrome plating peeling off, gets 1 star & is being returned
UPDATE: My original review (below) was for the 24" bar. I also ordered the 16" bar and that gets ONE STAR because, right out of the box, the thin chrome plating was peeling off one end and just the lightest rub took more off, in large pieces. The 16" bar was received several days after the 24" bar was mounted or I would have hesitated to put it up. I am returning the 16" bar and hope it doesn't happen to the other bar over time. I'm leaving the original 5 star rating given for the 24" bar but will update the review if the finish starts to peel off that one, too.ORIGINAL REVIEW: (24" grab bar) Ordered after husband's ankle was shattered to get on and off shower chair (and toilet directly across from where the bar is mounted). The main reason I decided on this bar (after looking at many) was the adjustable flanges that help if mounting in difficult/small areas. That was important in our case and made it possible to get both screws of each flange into a stud. As another reviewer said, positioning flanges parallel with the bar, as we had to, (opposite from what's shown in the picture, where flanges are perpendicular to the bar) makes tightening the last inside screw impossible with a straight, traditional or powered screwdriver but easily done with an off-set ratcheting screwdriver, like this one available at Amazon. Some come w/ multiple/changeable screwdriver tips. You'll need a PHILLIPS tip. (Offset screwdriver: http://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-807SX-Crosspoint-Screwdriver/dp/B00004T7U0/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1464087004&sr=1-2&keywords=offset+ratcheting+screwdriver .) Also be sure to tighten the screw on the backside of each flange to prevent "play" when grabbing the bar after it's mounted. I like the knurled area of the bar vs the peened (brushed) finish I've seen on other bars, and the 1" diameter makes it easy for even small hands, like mine, to get a firm grip. The bar is shiny and attractive, and, in my opinion, the visible screws on the flanges don't detract from the looks. At $12.79/free Prime shipping for the 24" bar, the price was better than most. (I also ordered the identical 16" bar for another bathroom.) This bar fit our needs perfectly in every way, and I would order it again, especially recommend it if you have a difficult mounting situation. The adjustable/rotating flanges are extremely helpful in that case.
