Classic American Cars Leather Bound – January 1, 1997

This is an amazing book. Bought it for my husband (a boomer) for Father's Day. He is delighted with every page, the detail, the descriptions, the pictures, the anecdotes, the excellent writing by Quentin Willson. I'll buy more from Mr. Willson's work soon.

Great pictures & descriptions of our greatest era in cars! Would have liked to have seen more on the 64-67 Pontiac Tempest & GTO. Maybe next edition!

Fabulous photographs and great looking cars made a hit with one car-aware son and His two young sons. You must buy this book if you find yourself driving a 4 year old to pre-school and he is chanting all the makes of the cars coming at you with special excitement saved for the Mustang GT!

The writer is fascinated with the evolution of the tail fin, and it seems to be the main theme. His writing is painful to read. Does "rude" means "good"? One car has a trunk the size of Indiana, another can hold a football team, and another a golf tournament. But which of these is the biggest? And those fins...by 1965 they were getting smaller by the day!The writer clearly has his favorites and also some cars he doesn't like. Why did he feature a car that he greatly dislikes, and was not popular with the public? Because he found a gorgeous specimen for photographs. And a 1959 Edsel after he ripped apart the 1958 Edsel, and already told us when the brand died? Again, he had nice looking examples. But at least twice he mentions the fins of the 1959 Chevy, but never shows us a picture. Instead he recycles a picture of 1960 Chevy. He also repeats odd phrases and entire explanations, such as the naming pattern of the Chrysler 300 letter series.Seeing the same license plates on more than one car, and the same exact license plates on the front and rear of every car, was obviously fake and distracting. It made me wonder what other tricks he used.On the plus side, the consistent photographic angles makes it fun to compare car styles to each other. He often mentions which head stylist was responsible for a design, and points out that stylist's design traits. I also appreciated seeing specifications and figures such as 0 to 60 times and fuel mileage for each featured car.

Bought this as a Christmas present for my brother, who is a car "nut". Lots of big colorful pictures. I think he will enjoy it.

My partner, who has Alzheimer's, loves to look at the pictures of the old cars in this book. I had originally checked it out of the local library and he loved it so much I bought him a copy. Great price and fast shipping.

A lovely book, well illustrated and written and ideal for lovers of the classic "Yank tanks" and "Muscle cars". The style is factually informative but avoids "geek" details like changing half inch flange grommets in 1962...The narrative also alludes to the American culture of the day and relevant world events. I recommend to any lover of USA motors as cars or as design and cultural examples of their age(s)

Bought this first years ago and loved it then. Bought for a young relative who loves cars. Willson is an excellent writer, there is a lot of interesting information and the photos of the cars are superb.
