Stillwater Island: An absolutely gripping mystery suspense thriller (Detective Megan Carpenter Book 4)

Bring Megan Back
This is probably the best book of the series. I hated for it to end. Please write about her again. I mean move over Lucas Davenport and I never thought I'd ever say anything like that.

loved it!
This book is an example of why I read Mr. Olsen’s book. Megan is REAL. Believable with a sense of humor and vulnerable. I expect to read a whole lot more of his books

amazing!
The entire Detective Carpenter series was amazing! I was absolutely hooked from the beginning of book one to the end of book four! The twists and turns were amazing and the plot line of Megan throughout the series was an amazing character development! I hope there are more books about Detective Megan in the future!

Book 4 isn't as good as the first 3
After reading the first 3 books of the Detective Megan Carpenter series, Stillwater Island book 4 was a disappointment. It's a great book, but Megan's background story was started in book 1 and progressed until this one. Her story finished in book 3, and this was just her regular detective work. Megan and Ronnie's partnership becomes better, and I really enjoyed the buildup for them to get here as close friends and partners. Megan's relationship with her brother doesn't get the attention the prior books were building on. They are in a good place here, but the building of it plateaus as does her relationship with Dan. I loved this series, and Gregg Olsen is a very good writer. I just didn't feel Stillwater Island continued the character building from the previous 3 books, and compared to them, it was anticlimactic. A great book that I felt could've been a stand-alone with the repeated background and no further building or closure of it here. Book 3 was the closing and ended with Megan's computer alerting a new email presumably leading to more but was not even mentioned in book 4. 3 stars, but if I read without the previous 3 books, I would give it 4 stars.

It was okay…
I suggest reading the first books in the series. This is not a series that is explained well throughout each book. If you don’t read them in order you can easily get lost.I probably won’t read any more in this series.

Seriously great read!
I love the characters and details of this series. Seriously kept me guessing right up until the final pages. Strong female characters are always fun.

Thrilling and suspenseful
This series captured me from the very first read. The characters were relatable and kept me guessing as to what they would say and do next. The secrets held and the need to protect those we love and care for was spot on. Hope there will be more of Megan Carpenter, her superior, Tony, and her at first unwanted but later much appreciated partner.

Enjoyable Addition to Series
Marlena Parker has a lot of good things in her life, not least a beautiful son, lovely home, and a father-in-law rich enough to own a private island. She also has an uncle who is a Sheriff in the Jefferson County Police Department who calls in his best officers when told Marlena is missing.Detective Megan Carpenter spent a great deal of her childhood running from an abusive parent and seeing links between herself and the missing woman is sure Marlena's volatile husband Ben is responsible. With partner Ronnie Marsh she begins a frantic search for the young woman knowing time isn't on their side but failure isn't an option they can even begin to consider. In this fourth Megan Carpenter book by the excellent Gregg Olsen she is up against very few clues, a wealthy, powerful family, and boss Tony's devastated sister-in-law. The action moves quickly and is seen from her point of view throughout. There is a lot of introspection but Megan is far less defensive than in the first few books and therefore more relatable.I enjoyed this book as I have the previous three but I didn't feel there was quite as much jeopardy as usual. Not every case can relate to Megan's past however and the link to her boss Tony instead worked well for the most part as did her relationship with partner Ronnie who is definitely bringing the best out in both of them.I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I really like Megan Carpenter as a main protagonist and this a good addition to the series.

Cool series!
In the fourth installment of the Detective Carpenter series, there is no creepy stalker harassing and taunting Megan, threatening to expose her secrets. Was it Hayden all along? In Stillwater Island, a mother and son go missing, and Ronnie and Megan must unravel the who, what, and wherefore? The Megan psychosis seems missing in action as she's too busy giving hugs and solving crimes. It's rich to hear Megan judging others when she is always lying and breaking laws in both her professional and personal life.
