Q: what differences are there between this one and the much higher priced models?

This is just for the replacement dust canister, not the whole vacuum unit.

Q: How does it work do i just sweep the dirt under it. i have the filter in but nothing happens when i sweep the dirt to it. what am i doing wrong?

It sounds like your knob is set on MANUAL. If it is, you'll need to tap the button at the base of the canister with your foot & it will vacuum. If it you turn the knob to the other setting it will vacuum by motion sensor.This is all considering you have the entire evac machine & not just the canister & filter.

Q: Does this come with the canister lid?
