DMT (Diamond Machining Technology)DMT (Diamond Machining Technology) Machining Technology (DMT) 6-in Whetstone Benchstone, Coarse Grit Sharpener (W6C)

Very durable for heavy material removal.
I've been trying various sharpening systems. In my opinion these DMT stones really shine in the lower to middle grit range. I've tried water stones, and they work well, unfortunately, the lower grit stones tend to be softer, and they dish a lot (get a grove from a chisel or plane plane). The higher grit 3000+ water stones, tend to be super hard and have much less dishing, So my suggestion, is use the DMT stones to get your blade most of the way there and then finish up with a some super high grit water stone action to get a scary sharp chisel or plane blade that shines like chrome and shaves like a razor. My only complaint about these stones is that at 2” wide, it can be difficult to sharpen plane blades, as the blade is as wide, or wider than the stone surface.

Not worth the money!
The product worked well for all my kitchen knives...once. After that it no longer sharpened at all. So I tried to return it...well you can't if you don't have the original packaging and used it even once. So the product is less than optimal and customer service is....well there isn't any.

coarse diamond sharpener
Useful if you have a tool that HAD an edge. This sharpener is similar to my #220 Arkansas stone. I will remove a lot of material in a short amount of time with little effort. I used it to replace the edge on a severely abused diver's knife. The previous owner must have been trying to slice barnacles. The advantage this has over Arkansas stones is it cuts faster (it feels like a file) and since it is diamond impregnated the 'stone' will not lose its shape. If your knife, chisel, etc. needs to be touched up, you should start with a finer grade of diamond and go to very fine for the finished edge.

Quick, easy sharpening tool
I am a big fan of the 6 inch diamond whetstone sharpener. I have a number of smaller compact DMT sharpeners, but this one lives between the kitchen and workshop. Wet or dry, it delivers. It literally only takes 5-6 swipes on a well maintained blade to keep it sharp. As a matter of habit, I give each knife a sharpen after every use. It takes less than 20 seconds to maintain an edge. DMT products are consistently excellent. I cant find a thing wrong with this sharpener. I keep the folding coarse DMT sharpener in my leatherman pouch and a bi fold coarse/fine in my hunting pack. If you like a sharp knife without a lot of hassle, go with this product, you wont be dissapointed.

Great sharpening stone
The diamond stone cuts very quickly and efficiently and it's wonderful not having to worry about the stone wearing away over time and having to be leveled. I haven't tried the diamond stones for the finer grains, for which I'm still using Japanese wet stones, so I can't speak to the fine honing capabilities of the diamond stones, but the coarse diamond stone makes short work of the initial process of removing burrs and dings from the blade, the kind of work which can take hours with the finer Japanese stones. Clean-up is easy, they require no soaking, all in all, a very helpful and handy stone to have.

Works great, easy to use, skip the hardwood case
I love this whetstone. I've had a fine version for years and just added the extra fine to take my kitchen knives to the next level. Easy to use, doesn't require oil or water, but I like to use water nonetheless. But skip the hardwood case. You can save $10-$15 and just get the cheap plastic case. You'll take it out of the case to use it anyway. They left the opening on the case big enough that the stone slides back and forth about 1-2mm as you use it, making it difficult to keep in place on a hard surface. Just put it on a damp towel or in a vice and you're good to go.

Best stone you can buy
I bought my first diamond whetstone 15/20 years ago. It still works, but its not made for working the blade nicks out of expensive knives. Excellent product, color does matter, when you own one you'll never use anything else again. As others tried my first stone at the camp or where ever, they had to have one too. Wives were calling asking where to get them for their husbands!Excellent product, try one and you'll never use anything else without complaining. There is that big of a difference!

Great stone for the sharpest blades
I've long been a believer in a sharp knife edge. All a dull edge does is frustrate you. I purchased the DMT 6" Extra fine whetstone sharpener with the hardwood box. Now, all my knives, from personal carry to kitchen, have a surgical edge. The edge is obtained quickly simply by following the included directions. This stone should last a LONG time and I am happy I invested in it. I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about obtaining the best edge on their blade they can.
