It just doesn't grip well. Works most of the time, but you've got to be super careful to prevent your pan from falling off and hitting the floor.I'm going back to oven mitts.

Allows m.e to easily remove pan from oven without hotpads. Very convenient!

For me, this tool has found several uses in my kitchen. Mainly, as stated by the manufacturer, it should be used only for removal of heated dishes, bowls, pots, and pans that have a lip or rim for the plate retriever tongs to grip properly.However, I found an additional use for this fantastic little tool. When I received my air fryer/convection oven, it was supposed to have come with a pair of tongs but didn’t. Rather than bothering with a long wait for one to be shipped from Asia to the US, I opted to obtain this multifunctional tool. Whether I use it to remove the basket or the rotisserie, it matters not to me. It is just as useful removing pots and pans from the oven in my stove or hot plates from my microwave and now my air fryer as well.I also love the fact that these grippers (for the lack of a better word) have a rubber-like material inserted inside them which prevent creaking of the ceramic plates or saucers, but also keep a tight grip on whatever I am removing from my different ovens.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

It also helps if you heat up plates in the oven, etc.The design allows you to pick-up a full HOT plate (for example) and move it from the cooking place to a trivet on a table. To be exact, all except of taking out a plate/bowl from a steamer can be achieved by using mittens.I have attached a video showing why this gripper is so useful. In addition, see few more pictures contrasting old gripper with new. IMHO, the new gripper functions better having the lock, but quality wise the old one is better. This gripper has quite a side-to-side play, see pics. Luckily this doesn’t affect the functionality, which is still very good.

It took me a bit of time, before I trusted this tool. Since then I have lifted lids, moved baking sheets, pans and bowls without failures. This tools offers you more control than you have with bulky oven mitts. You will need storage somewhere near your oven, as this the area you will likely use the pan gripper the most. It does lock in place to save space, but lacks a hook for hanging. If you are prone to burning your self with oven work, you may want to consider this tool.
