I have a 1966 Beetle with the 1300 cc engine, converted to 12Volts with an alternator. It fit and works just fine. Hope this helps

Does this fit a type 3

To simply say it doesn’t fit is incorrect. There is no difference in fit. T3 is supposed to have 4.2 PSI, while T1, only 3 PSI. T3 also has different orientation of inlet and output, but that can be overcome. Find the PSI on this, and that will tell what you need. Find articles on thesamba.com for more in depth information.
