Kate 5x7ft Light Grey Backdrops Abstract Photography Backdrop for Professional Studio Backgrounds

This is my third backdrop from Kate. I bought the first one several years ago, and the next two very recently. I use them as backgrounds for portraits and headshots in a small professional studio setting. I usually shoot people separated from the background enough for it to come out of focus, leaving color and the impression of texture. This also smooths any imperfections like nicks and runs that might develop in the material. I appreciate the classic look that they help me achieve. The main aspect I would like to note here is that the material has improved significantly since the first backdrop I purchased. It has always been made from microfiber, but now it is a slightly thicker material with less of a "grain" compared to previous such products from this company. Also, the sleeve at the top for inserting a crossbar on a background stand is about twice as deep, making it a lot easier to place over a pole. These are very significant improvements, without an appreciable increase in weight. Much has been made by other reviewers of the lines formed by folding the backdrop for shipping. I quite appreciate how light and compact this makes the product for easy shipping. After I open each backdrop I simply hang it up on a background stand and use a hand steamer to smooth out the seams, which takes just a few minutes. The best way to store these is upright, but rolling them onto roll them over a tube or pole. A 2-3 inch PVC pipe available at any hardware store is a good option. These are worth a lot more than they cost. Fortunately, they are very reasonably priced, attractive, and easy to use, which makes it affordable to purchase many of them in different colours and patterns/textures for my studio.

As with other Kate products I have, this is a very nice backdrop. It has a pole hole at the top for fitting on the stand, however I just tend to use clamps because I do a lot of backdrop changes. This one is made using quality fabric and has an abstract grey-toned design which works well with any color scheme in your scene. Mine came with a defect in the seam stitching which causes a buckle in the fabric. Rather than sending it back (which I would have anyway), I decided to contact the company and ask for some kind of discount or refund. They were very responsive and understanding while resolving my problem and although it took a couple of back and forth emails, they ultimately gave me a full refund without my having to return it. So I took 1 star off for poor QC at the factory, which caused me inconvenience that could easily have been avoided.

perfect quality !! it’s thick and sturdy - perfect background for a professional photo shoot. only thing is, I should’ve ordered two to have a full panels, but that’s on me. great size and quality.

We used to take our own senior yearbook photo and it worked out perfectly. Easy to iron out wrinkles. Material is thick and durable. Color is spot on and looks just like what’s advertised. Perfect for taking pictures as it’s not too bright and does not reflect. Can be used as a party back drop as well.

This is a good backdrop for the price and even for a higher price. The microfiber surface is like a thin velour material. There is no show through when the background is dark. A bright light or a bright window will show through. Because it comes folded, it had a grid of wrinkles. I put this on the ironing board and laid a cotton dish towel - the thin off-white kind - damp with water on top. I set the iron to its highest setting for acetate (3 out of 10 on my iron) and ironed the wrinkles. I knew the iron was hot enough when I could hear steam hissing from the cotton towel. This took out most of the wrinkles. (You can see a few remaining in the photo. A handheld steamer would probably do better.

Not thick, they changed their quality of material and it’s not good. Size as mentioned. Not see through. Color as shown. Easy to fold.

Amazon's product photo pictures don't do these backgrounds justice. They are way more prettier and vibrant in person. I absolutely love how soft the material is. To me they are easy to work with. I purchased several in different colors. :D I'm no expert but to me they seem pretty good quality and you can't go wrong with the price. They are a bit wrinkled when you first unfold them, however, I'm not a professional photographer so the wrinkles aren't a major concern to me. I'm sure there is more than a few ways to get rid of the wrinkles if you feel they are a must to remove. I would highly recommend them and are a must if you are starting out and on a budget :D
