Fascinating chronicle of Covid in Vietnam
This is a well written account about how the author and her husband were struck down with Covid at the beginning of the world outbreak. Each country was learning to deal with the unknown virus but despite the poverty in Vietnam, the professional way this foreign couple were looked after was amazing. The West has so many lessons still to learn. I was fascinated to follow their progress especially as Shan, the author was a ex nurse. Definitely worth reading.

Inspiring Moving Funny and Real
This true story is one of the most inspiring I have ever read. Great prose that makes this a page turner from start to finish. An honest funny and very real story that is both inspiring and life affirming. I like bed it and can only hope it makes it to the big screen where it would make equally cool m Pelli good viewing. I recommend this book as it also supports childrens cancer charity with all its profits.

An amazing story of fear and courage
Shan and John's story in Vietnam and their Covid experience is an amazing story of fear and courage. Having recently had Covid almost two years after their experience i still felt like a 'leper' and was naturally concerned as to how badly the virus would impact me. I can only begin to imagine how they must have felt with the nurses not wanting to come near to them and the fear of how much worse things would get before getting better. The idea of going on holiday and getting ill is enough to put me off travelling, spending weeks and weeks under what sounded like military rule in a Vietnam hospital would certainly be character building!I will let you read the book but I am amazed that John was allowed to get on a plane given his health at the time....

A harrowing tale of a nurses experience of contracting Covid and being treated in a foreign Country
I will admit straight away that I know the author. She trained as a nurse with me 50 years ago in Jersey. I have only seen her a few times in the last 45 years but always found her a gregarious, fun loving and positive person. My goodness she needed her strong determined character during this episode.Having said that, I read this book and was blown away by the description of Shan & John's experience of contracting Covid on a flight to Vietnam and spending 6 weeks being treated in a forgiven country.Shan write like she speaks, the words flow off the page and hook you in, I read the whole book in one sitting.I loved the way she interspersed some light hearted stories of her fascinating life. To have just told the Covid story would have been too harrowing. This book makes me so grateful for our NHS and also for the positive outcome for Shan & John, it could have been so different. The book is well worth a read.Maybe the UK could learn some lessons from Vietnam?

What a harrowing time the author had, along with so many other people, due to this dreadful virus. An engaging page turner about the early experiences surviving with this awful disease as well an autobiography about her interesting life with many entertaining anecdotes.

A great love story amid so much chaos
Loved reading the book and actually finished it in one day as I wanted to keep reading more and more. What an amazing account of one of the darkest periods we’ve experienced in our lifetimes. Shan and John are very brave souls and I love Shan’s “can do” attitude at all times! Having met them recently on a holiday in Vietnam, I’m so glad that this lovely couple continue to be blessed and spend their time together… Great book!!!!

An honest account of experiencing covid and treatment in Vietnam. Throughout, her optimism and perseverance shine through, to get her through the most difficult situations, all interspersed with anecdotes of her very interesting life. So worth reading, the kind of person you'd want to be looking out for you in a difficult situation.
