Good DVD

to begin with a well-worn cliche.. look up "tasty" in the dictionary and there will be a picture of this disc. I only wish I had bought it sooner Was put off at first when I heard that this is a re-mix from a PBS special (and it is), my thinking being "how good could the audio be?" Well the answer is.. very very good indeed!JT's performace is excellent, but it's the outstanding musicians and performances behind him which propel this disc to the top of my repeat playlist. Astonishing players; I particularly loved the gorgeous colors laid down on keyboards and guitar, and you may know the drummer from the earlier days of the David Letterman band.To cut to the chase, the audio mix is pristine! Crystal clarity combined with an unexpected (and very welcome) warmth and power in the bass. Your subwoofer will enjoy the workout! Wonderful audio imaging of the entire stage positioning. The only wish I would add to the audio is that it was in DTS, and unlike discs such as the Eagles or the Steely Dan dvd, "Beacon" isnt mixed so that the band is in 3D using the rear channels to surround the listener with performers; in this production the rear channels largely accomodate audience ambiance. But what a mix to the front channels! The production on James' guitar work is so good it places the instrument in the room with you. Note: the same guy was at the helm on this one as was on Taylor's recent Grammy winning album. The arrangements are fresh and very interesting musically, with a setlist to match! I've listened to this disc quite a few times, and I must say, the "surprise" in Shower the People still gives me chills. In short, a master performance from a master songwriter. If you enjoy this genre and/or looking for a disc to showcase the power of your system, stop reading reviews and rush this disc to your doorstep at once! It's on my blu-ray wishlist.

An icon, at his best documented performance, in a venue with great acoustics, an all-star lineup of musicians, great musical content executed brilliantly, by a legend.

Anything used is a chance although I have always been pleased with the very few used products I had to return to Amazon because they were defective: no refunding problem. I'll expect my commission check in two weeks. :) Great concert. If you are a James Taylor fan and you have never seen him in concert, BUY IT!! You will not be displeased. In the very, very slight chance you don't like it, you can...er...ah...hmm...well, sell it again through Amazon. Some fortunate person will have good taste. :)

I've followed JT since he first appeared on the music scene, and so was delighted when I read all the positive reviews about the Live Beacon Theater DVD. I'm not a great fan of live performance DVDs, but must admit that I was completely floored by the high quality of all aspects of this disk. JT is in rare form, the recording quality is absolutely top shelf, the video quality is exceptional, editing outstanding, and supporting musicians and performers dead on. You will be completely drawn in and captivated by this performance, which is exactly what you would hope from a live performance music DVD. A clear "must have" if you classify yourself as a fan of Taylor's music. This is one DVD that I have watched many times since I purchased, and wholeheartedly recommend this as a good purchase for enjoying JT in a live setting, or simply showing off your high-end home theater system. Through the Rocket 850 mains on my own HT system, you are virtually sitting in the audience. Highly recommended!

Once again I was able (honored) to see James Taylor in concert this past November. His concerts are over the top! I have never seen a better performance and it seems like he strives to make his performances better each time. That being said, I came home and ordered the "Live at the Beacon Theatre" DVD. It is good, but obviously a lot of the "showmanship" that makes James Taylor's performances far superior had been edited out and more music added. For those of you who, like myself, appreciate the "showman" side of James Taylor, this DVD may be a little disappointing. As far as delivery service, the seller was excellent and one whom I would recommend. The merchandise arrived well ahead of time and in the condition described. The excellent service is the reason I am rating this a 5 star purchase.

James Taylor ist Amerika's Darling unter den Singer-Songwritern. Er hat in seinem delikaten Fingerpicking-Stil die wichtigsten Einflüsse der amerikanischen Musik (Blues, Folk, aber auch Gospel) zu zeitlos schönen Songs verwoben, und wenngleich seine bekanntesten Songs wie "You've got a friend" oder "How sweet it is (to be loved by you)" für das breite US-Publikum maßgeschneidert waren, ist es trotzdem schade daß er hierzulande so wenig bekannt ist."Live at the Beacon Theatre" jedenfalls setzt als Konzertmitschnitt aus dem Jahr 1997 Maßstäbe: in puncto Sound und Optik nicht umsonst "award-winning", bietet diese Aufnahme, die seinerzeit in voller Länge im US-Fernsehen ausgestrahlt wurde, Genuß in Ton und Bild. Jedem, der Singer/Songwriter Musik mag, kann man diese DVD nur ans Herz legen; JT Fans werden sie ohnehin bereits besitzen. Einzelne Titel hervorzuheben ist zwecklos - zu zahlreich sind die Höhepunkte, egal ob JT alleine mit Gitarre, oder mit Unterstützung seiner ausgezeichneten Band agiert; ob er er seine eigenen Songs zum besten gibt, oder eine seiner zahlreichen gelungenen Coverversionen von Buddy Holly, Carole King u.a.Seine Songs und seine einfühlsame Stimme berühren einfach, und dank der perfekten Kameraführung wird auch seine ganze Spielfreude und Interaktion mit der Band und dem Publikum eingefangen (an einem Punkt bekommt er von Zusehern sogar ein Porträt überreicht, wofür selbst ihm die Worte fehlen). Klar ist sein Publikum mitunter schon in die Jahre gekommen - nicht umsonst sang er heuer die Nationalhymne bei der Eröffnung der Baseball World Series in Boston's Fenway Park und spielte danach auf John Kerry's Wahlparty ; James Taylor gehörte bei Amerika's intellektueller Oberschicht der Ostküste jahrelang zum guten Ton. Selbst aus betuchtem Haus, hat er all seine Probleme bzw. die seiner Generation in wunderbar poetische und melancholische Songs verpackt, die dank seines unverwechselbaren Spiels auf der Akustikgitarre seine ganz eigene Handschrift tragen.Klassiker wie "Fire & Rain" oder "You've got a friend" werden mit Stücken seines damals frischveröffentlichten und mit einem Grammy ausgezeichneten Albums "Hourglass" gemischt, und so bietet das Konzert einen eindrucksvollen Streifzug durch sein musikalisches Schaffen. Für mich gehört "Live at the Beacon Theatre" zu den wenigen Musik-DVD's die man immer und immer wieder auflegt, wenn man sich ein bisschen nach Gänsehaut sehnt.

Wer Freude an guten Songs hat, die von einer hervorragenden Band gespielt werden, kann hier nichts falsch machen.Ein in jeder Hinsicht gelungener Konzertmitschnitt.

die Qualität ist ausgezeichnet,besser geht nicht.Mir wurde nicht zuviel versprochen James Taylor is genial.Klar ist es immernoch Geschmackssache, aber ich bin voll begeistert.

wenn man ihn kennt , weiss das er sehr viel humor mitbringt in seine Darbietungen , ich bin ein begeisterter zuhörer
