Insurgent (Divergent Series): by Veronica Roth -- Sidekick

The "divergent" trilogy by Veronica Roth was intriguing but somewhat painful to read. I don't mean painful as in: the characters face dreadful dilemmas--although this is also true. For me, though, the plot depth and the incredible amount of action was painfully difficult to keep track of from book to book. Admittedly, the premise of the trilogy didn't' grab my interest at first, because distopian novels aren't what I deem light reading, but upon a friend's recommendation, I read the first book and was hooked. However, while reading the second novel of the trilogy, I realized I definitely needed a bit of help keeping the simultaneous storylines and conflicts together. I found this Sidekick by chance, and it's the reason I read each book through to the last page. It not only provided a chapter-by-chapter summary, but it features references to the key points of each book so that it's easy to skim through and remind oneself of what took place in the prior books. Read this trilogy by all means--just don't attempt it without the aid of this thorough Sidekick

This companion book does a great job at telling what each novel is about. It tells about how the factions work and explains what it means to be a Divergent. It explains that "Divergent" is about Tris changing from Abnegation to Dauntless and by doing this she is labeled a Divergent. It then tells that "Insurgent" is all about the factions fall apart due to power struggles. Then finally tells you that you'll get some answers in "Allegiant" as well as learning about the new battle Tris has ahead of her outside of the city. The writing style analysis is great at explaining what sets this series apart from others, and the chapter-by-chapter analysis does an amazing job at explaining the chapters to ensure you don't miss out on any of the hidden messages through out the series. The major themes and symbols section really helps bring to light some of the hidden meanings in the series.

This sidekick covers Veronica Roth's series of young adult novels; Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. Though some compare the trilogy to Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games, it definitely deserves consideration on its own merit. True that the series both share the main theme of a dystopic future but as a reader I felt it only fair to approach them open mindedly. This sidekick offers a helpful character references list and breaks the chapters down, providing an analysis after each. The part that I found most interesting was the analysis of the main characters. The three were discussed in a way that made me take a moment to reflect on each ones journey through the series. It was definitely well thought through by the writer and helped me to contribute to a lively exchange among the members of my book club. I'd definitely recommend that any fan of the series read this sidekick along with or after completing the trilogy.

The Divergent trilogy books grabbed my interest right away but I needed some assistance in getting through them. This Sidekick book helped me to enjoy the books even more. The Sidekick author shared that, “all three books explore the themes of individuality and sacrifice, but in very different ways. Individual books also touch on themes like freedom, guilt, forgiveness and loyalty.” I felt this helped me to gain a better understanding of the themes and what to expect while reading through the books. I loved the video interviews as it gave me a full view of where the author was trying to go with the characters and the expectations involved. I’m thankful for the Sidekick book in explaining things further that I didn't even think of while reading the trilogy.

This book summed up the story for the book Divergent, without giving away any spoilers. Although I have not seen the movie yet, I would recommend this companion book for anybody going to see the movie that has not read the book or the series. From the reviews of the movie from those that have read Divergent and those that have not...read the book or get this companion.I think you will be lost in the movie without this outlines.

I didn't find this very useful. Every theory given by the author was something I derived from the books as I read them. I would not spend the money on any further BookBuddy. It's like Cliff Notes...not necessary if you read the book yourself.

I thought I was getting the three books, not a teaching guide. Disappointed when I opened it up on the kindle. Looks like it would be an ok way to get a summary of the plots if you were teaching it.
