Paryvara Digital Forehead and Ear Thermometer Medical

I bought this Paryvara TH-1412 infrared thermometer above all the (almost) identical items on Amazon that were half the cost because it had an "FDA approved" seal on this website. The item delivered has no such seal on the box, on the instructions, or on the thermometer itself and I can find no reference it this brand on the FDA website. I wonder if this is false advertising?The thermometer seems to function OK, but only if I take a series of around 5 readings and average them. However, single readings may be up to 1.5 degrees F different. By comparison, my standard digital oral thermometer is consistent within 0.2 degrees over a series of 10 readings.Compared to the oral thermometer, my forehead readings were, on average, 1.8 F higher, the left ear 1.5 F higher, and the right ear 0.7 F higher.My suggestion is that if you buy one of these IR thermometers, you should first sit down and compare its readings with the thermometer that you have been using up to now so that you know what to get used to. Do it when you are in good health and are at rest so that you know what your "normal" temperature is. See whether you prefer the head, left ear or right ear for your particular situation.The ear readings are straightforward to do. For me, I push the probe fully into the ear; get it as deep as possible, and then momentarily press the ear button. The device will beep (possibly several times if you are over the manufacturers preset limits) but the reading is then done. For doing this on another person you may have to pull the ear slightly sideways to get the sensor as deep as possible.To do the forehead check, place the IR thermometer head against the left side of your forehead, above and about in line with the left corner of your left eye. Press it against and slightly into the skin, push and hold the "head" button and slowly drag it across your forehead over a period of 5-10 seconds to the point where it is in line with the right corner of your right eye.Then take your finger off the "head" button before lifting the thermometer up and away from the skin. The display will show an average reading of the temperature of your forehead. It will take some practice to do this in a consistent way and obtain consistent readings. Establish the technique before you get ill.In summary, I am somewhat disappointed in the advertising and wonder if I have overpaid as a result. The thermometer can be made to give consistent readings as long as you train yourself and develop your technique. The readings will almost certainly be different from what you are used to with a standard oral thermometer and you might find it beneficial to write your new "normal" temperatures on the white body with a felt tip marker.Personally, I think I am going to stick with a $10 quick-read digital oral thermometer for my critical health needs.

I got this thermometer for its dual purpose forehead and ear temperature feature. It comes with a nice blue cover which is nice but I recommend keeping the thermometer inside the blue cover within its original box (which is probably about 5 inches tall and maybe 2-3 inches wide (it's not huge, it's a good size, please correct me if I am wrong though) if you did not purchase the protection plan.My temperature for my forehead and ear are relatively similar. They both are usually in the 98.1-98.8 range usually. However, when I first got this thermometer, it would consistently read somewhere in the 99's every single time (and this is over a 2 day period- I made sure that my head was not too hot or too cold before I took the temperature so the results would not be inaccurate). That is not good for a thermometer, you want it to be accurate. So, I figured, maybe it's my technique and I looked at the reviews and I figured out that I was doing the right thing. I emailed Paryvara about this and they were very professional with their email etiquette, that was very nice. We attempted to fix the problem but I told them that I would consistently take my temperature to figure out what was going on. Now it works very well, almost perfectly! I don't know what happened earlier but each reading that I get for the ear and forehead temperatures now is accurate.Honestly, my only complaint is that there are no ear covers that are usable for the thermometer, to my knowledge. Does anybody know if there are covers for the ear temperature taking method? I purchased the protection plan just in case anything happens but hopefully I won't need it.

After experiencing multiple frustrating failures with traditional underarm/rectal infant thermometers and ear thermometers from Babys'r'us and Rite Aid, we took to the Amazon for a little consumer guidance. This thermometer, having great reviews and a much more reasonable price tag than the forehead thermometers in the stores was the winner. We have had much success with clear, accurate readings for about two weeks now... Just in time for the yucky spring cold season! Easy to use, comes with a nice little storage bag. Whole family gets accurate results and it's nice to have both the ear and forehead function to double check readings.

I replaced a small digital thermometer that showed the same temperature of 101.1 every time I used it. Verification with my mercury thermometer confirmed it was not providing the correct temperature. This unit is easy to use but takes a few attempts to figure out the best technique. I am incredibly pleased with the quality of the product, the ease of use and the accuracy of the results.

This is a great thermometer! I purchased this for our home since we have been using an oral thermometer for ages. My mother recently came home from the hospital after breaking her hip and at times she felt she was running a fever. This thermometer came in very handy especially when you don't want to wait for two minutes for a temp. The product is easy to use and pretty accurate. There is a difference in temp readings between the forehead and ear. However, it is pretty close to being accurate. I am glad we purchased this medical necessity for our home.

Received the Temporal Thermometer in good condition and on time. It works just like it should and it's accurate. The only problem I had was changing temperature reading from Celsius to Fahrenheit. The direction in the booklet that came with the thermometer to change the temperature were incorrect. I did received an email from Paryvara with the correct instructions.
