Good Icelandic noir
If you like Scandi noir, then you should definitely give Icelandic noir a try - and there's nowhere better to start than with this author. In this book Erlandur investigates the apparent suicide of a woman as he's sure there's more to the case than immediately meets the eye. Of course there is - you may guess the outcome of Erlandur's efforts to uncover the truth but the journey to it is well told and I was gripped.

Nothing happens!
OK, I just don't get where these fabulous reviews of this book are coming from? By the time you get to about page 200, nothing much has happened since the first three pages AND you already know exactly who the baddie is. No more bodies, no thrilling "finds", clues, exciting detective work. Just a very slow-paced series of "hunches" lead to what you have known all along. Sorry, riveting it is not!

Erlendur P.I.
In the sixth offering from the Reykjavik Murder Mystery Series we follow Erlendur alone as he unofficially investigates the suicide of a lady following the death of her mother two years before and the disappearance of two teenagers thirty years ago.Elinborg and Sigurdur Oli, his companions in Reykyavik CID, are cast aside and mentioned sporadically as we follow Erlendur alone as he casts aside any official investigations he surely must be carrying out to pursue the cases mentioned above. The pace, as with the previous five outings is slow, but all the better for it as there is a greater sense of realism in the gloomy nature of the investigations and it also allows you to develop a greater understanding of the characters, which in this case further develops the missing person theme, and Iceland. All in all, this is as good as the previous five outings. The plot really does start to weave itself together during the slow pace of the investigation. Yes, the Reykjavik Murder Mysteries are slow paced, but all the more real for it.

Books by Indridason
All the books by Indridason, including this and all previous books, were received at the same time and read in publication order. They are about a Reykjavik gtoup of Detectives. The mysteries themselves are sometimes brutal and receive little in the way af actual "detection and analysis" to arrive at solutions. However the stories of the various social backgrounds and the interactions between the various characters are quite interesting. The books are better read in order as the characters and their developments are continued from book to book. They are a light, entertaining and easy read. The books were obtained through Amazon.co.uk and the costs and delivery were excellent.

another Arnaldur gem
definately one of my favourites of his , loved the way he manages to combine new developments with Erlendur and his family [like revisiting a favourite uncle ]and also a rather creepy plot regarding a seance . There is no big story here , no politics , messages , serial killers , just ordinary people attempting to get on with their lives and more importantly loss . Its the little details of icelandic life and the way Indridason always manages to write such a human story [ nothing gratuitous or obsessively violent ] just pleasantly eerie .
