I am concerned about the design on the pad. Does that show through under the table cloth, or makie it lumpy??

I don't know about the designs showing through there were so many lumps from where it was folded I didn't even get to the design. I tried to get the folds out, but nothing worked so I returned it.

How do you get the creases out of the protector?

place a thin damp towel on the felt portion of the the pad and then iron on the towel pad combination using a steam iron. Do not leave the iron in place too long to prevent burning.

Is the design nice enough to be used alone?

No it is NOT, nice enough to be used alone, it is stiff and came with a lot of creases/ it is heavy and not like a tablecloth. Had many before, but this is the worse! I would not recommend to purchases this item or would NOT repurchases myself.

Is this waterproof, and is it thick enough to protect table from hot dishes?

The packaging says not put hot ovenware directly onto it, but if it’s not just of of the oven I’m sure it will be fine. The topside is a vinyl that can be wiped clean from spills and should protect the felt underneath (and also the table).
