Apogee Instruments MQ-510 Full-Spectrum Quantum PAR Meter, for Underwater/Reef Tank Precision Light Measurement - All Light Sources Including LEDs

Sent me a used item. As soon as I opened it immediately noticed scratches on the sensor and then saw corrosion everywhere including the screws. Very Unsat to spend over $600 on an item to find it was already used.

I bought a cheaper VBR version of a PAR meter on here and didn’t know that it didn’t measure the blue lighting in my tank. I spent several hundred dollars on corals thinking I had a PAR reading. I went to my LFS and asked them and they asked where did you get your par meter and I said Amazon and it’s a VBR meter. Sure as dog doo doo they said it isn’t measuring the blue lighting. Purchased this PAR meter and everything in my tank is booming. Sometimes trying to save a buck isn’t the best option in some cases.

I spent over $560 on this par meter only to get a package that was already opened and used. No instructions or no paper work to show the product. Or how to use it. The par meter was dirty and the battery didn't work. I had to replace the battery with the one that was in it because it was crusty like it was dropped in saltwater.

I purchased this for my coral reef aquarium to see what PAR readings I was getting in my tank. I had no idea my numbers were so low and this is potentially contributing to slower coral growth. This device makes it so easy to spot check lighting adjustments and coral positioning for ideal light/PAR values. It has good build quality and does what it's supposed to do. Do yourself a favor though and buy a fiberglass driveway reflector pole at Lowe's or Wal-Mart for $3 and a 3D printed sensor holder off of eBay or etsy and save yourself the $70 they charge for the aquarium sensor wand. It would be nice if that was included for the price of this item since it's essential for use in the aquarium unless you want to go diving in your fish tank! You can also consider the newer model of Apogee DLI-500 which does the same as this, plus some extra features such as daily light integral for less money-either way you'll be surprised how helpful an Apogee meter is!
