This is the second Valley Forge flag pole I purchased. The first one lasted about 10 years. Note: my flag was raised 24-7-365 (properly lighted) on the Valley Forge pole.The pole itself looked great during the entire lifespan. However, I did paint the endcap ball to match my exterior lights, and this did require occasional painting over the years.I am only replacing the flag pole because the endcap ball broke off at the base. I am sure I could have bought another endcap ball or eagle, but this flagpole was reasonably priced and it also spins, which my first one did not.The flagpole comes two pieces that screw together. Before I assembled the flagpole I put some Loctite thread-lock glue on the threads to ensure the two pieces do not come unscrewed.The only thing I did not like about this flag pole is the flag mounting rings. They were made of cheap clear plastic. As a result, I reused my initial flag mounting rings and they work perfectly with this spinning flagpole.If your interested in the flag mounting rings I reused, just search Amazon for the following: “Valley Forge Flag 1-Inch Diameter Rotating Mounting Rings, 2-Piece” These cost (at the time of this review) $5.38.

I've been hanging five flags along my long deck during the summer for over ten years now. My wooden flag poles were starting to show their age, splitting, cracking, and bending. I decided it was time for some new ones, so did some research, and thought these looked interesting. I started off buying two, and loved 'em so much, I bought three more. Some of the reviews said the shiny end started peeling after being out in the weather, so I sprayed the shiny ends of the last three with Krylon. It will be interesting to see if that makes a difference. As far as the spinner part, yes they work GREAT! My deck is on a second floor, facing a lake, and its always breezy. Sometimes the flags fold on themselves, but quickly unfold at the next gust of wind. These flag poles are a winner!

First let me preface by saying that I order different items 2 to 3 times a month from Amazon and I never write reviews, but when I was researching this pole I believe I remember reading some negative reviews so here's mine:This flagpole is awesome. I live in DFW and for those of you who know the area the wind constantly blows 24/7. Just yesterday (24MAY2012) we had gusts over 30 MPH. Well guess what my LSU flag is still flying proudly. With my old standard pole my flag would have been completely wrapped around multiple different times. Over the last month and with EVERYDAY 24/7 usage of the Valley Forge flagpole I have maybe had to straighten my flag out twice, and that's only because there's a tall bush on the corner of my home that sometimes snags the flag. With my old flagpole unwrapping my flag was a multi daily occurrence. If you don't like this flagpole or have had issues with it perhaps you did get a defective piece, didn't install it correctly, or you are just simply hard to please in general. If this flagpole ever breaks (it's very sturdy so I don't see that happening) I would most definitely buy another one 10 times out of 10. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

The Valley Forge brushed aluminum 'spinning' flag pole is of the finest quality and very well made. I like the "spinning" factor to the pole....the flag never gets snarled or wrapped up....it flies freely in the breeze and looks magnificent and is always in full splendor!!! I have it installed on my patio deck, which is located on my second level condo. My neighbors are jealous.....their flags always get snarled and don't display like mine.

Works better than expected, even with the flag mounted/displayed at a 45° angle. I was a bit skeptical with the "tangle free" promise but purchased the aluminum spinning pole and the Valley Forge 1-Inch diameter Rotating Mounting Rings (a second item you really do need).The upper 2/3rds of the pole spins on ball bearings so as the flag blows and inevitably wraps onto the mast the mast shaft rotates to counteract the condition. I gave this 4 stars..... if the flag you are attaching has a grommet on the top and bottom end, there is no attachment feature for the bottom end (there is at the top) and you need to buy a $5.50 rotating ring set (noted above) and place one at the bottom so you can attach the flag completely. That is the only reason that I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars, they really should throw in 1 rotating ring for the many people with 2 grommet flags. If you and a flag with a hemmed pocket so you can slide the pole into the pocket of the flag and the flag has a top grommet or fabric loop for the top clip to snap into then you are good. I have my two grommet flag set at a 45° angle as was concerned that it would still tangle. Early on I had the lower ring mount pulling the grommets and flag taught and it was still on occasion tangling. I moved the lower ring mount up about 1½ inch to ad a bit more slack and the problem went away. I am very happy, no more daily messing with my flag. On occasion, being that it stands at a 45 degree angle, the flag will drop on the end ball (appearing tangled) but with the next breeze the rotating feature combined with the lift from the wind returns the flag to it's proper display. Installed in early in May 2013 and continuously in place it has operated perfectly. I'm concerned how the bearings (ball bearing races) will survive long term including my mild Maryland winters. I will, in the future revise this review to offer a long term status, needed maintenance (like lubrication) and or failure reports. For me, at this point I would buy no other pole for the typical 3 foot by 5 foot flag. Finally, no more messing with untangling my flag.Update June 04, 2017. After 4 years in full sun and all types of weather on the south side of my house It is still hanging at 45° and working as it should. The metallic coating on the ball/knob tip has completely weathered off. Strong winds have broken 2 wall brackets and I've replaced a faded flag but pole is doing its job of providing a tangle free flag. I have done no real maintenance on the pole or its bearings. Well, a year ago I did put some graphite powder lubricant in the two ball bearing areas just in case and it did spin more freely but I think that will rinse out after a few rain storms. Maybe I'll check back in 2021.

I bought this, because my old short flagpole was wearing out and the flag kept wrapping around the pole in the wind. It is on a porch railing, so it hangs at an angle and the wind just kept wrapping it up. This new pole is made to prevent the flag from wrapping around the pole. It spins and keeps the flag at a stationary position. It is very pretty and looks like it will be durable, too. I order my flags from Valley Forge (through Amazon) and have always been pleased with their products.

Looked ok but it said ' made in China '. Hope it's ok to put an American Flag on that Chinese pole.

I got tired of unwrapping my flag just about every day. I went with this one and was pleasantly surprised. It works great! I have the flag that attaches with a sleeve, be careful, some of these poles only work with flags that attach with grommets. This one works with either type. The flag does "fold over" onto the pole once in a while if the wind catches it just right, but it doesn't wrap tightly around the pole like it used to, and if I wait a few minutes it blows back to normal.I gave it 5 stars. A lot of the people who gave it a low rating had the wooden pole, I'd stick with the aluminum version which just about everyone seems to like. I was going to downgrade it a bit because as others have said the silver ball on the end is just cheap plastic. The "chrome" finish will probably flake off in time, but for under twenty dollars I'm happy. For this price it's a 5 star.

I've had many flags sticking out the sides of my various residences stretching back almost 20 years. I went through many poles of different manufacture and found all of them wanting.A couple of years ago I ordered this one from Amazon and never looked back. By far the best of all the ones I've used. Flags and banners never get tangled and it holds up to strong winds well. Will soon be ordering the 6 foot version to keep the flags from coming into contact with the roof shingles.

I have never purchased a flag pole before, so was expecting disappointment! So opposite, This is a beautiful item. Looks great, easy to use. I have had it up two days and no tangled flag yet! The spinning pole function really works!

All as advertised except it shipped a critical part short and the part wasn't replaced. Fortunately I happened to have a old part available.
