Studio Material
A lot of country music is perfected in the studio. You get an attractive singer - some of the singers these days could be models - you play some chords on an acoustic, sing some lyrics that touch the heart, and you have country music. Add some studio musicians if you want to make the tracks more interesting. It's a formula that has worked for decades. But the Marshall Tucker Band was and is a club band that performed their best stuff on the road. Play a few verses of Blue Ridge Mountain Skies and then let Toy play an intense five minute solo with riffs that surpass most blues specialists. Solos during 24 Hours at a Time could go on for ten minutes. Their live jams were awesome. I got this book hoping that it would help me capture some of the riffs. I play blues, but I thought it would be fun to learn some of the country style riffs I'd been digging so much. But I was disappointed. This book includes the tablature of only their studio work. I had listened to their live recording exclusively, and I didn't realize how lame their studio work was. The guitar solos are watered down. I got only a handful or riffs from this, and they're nothing like the powerful masculine country riffs that Toy played live. Also I think one of the chords is off. On one song they were showing a D chord, and it sounded awful when I played it. I figured out that the song is actually played in G. So I think the book might be wrong. Maybe in the studio they said, "Hey let's see what happens if George plays in D while the rest of us play in G." Maybe they did that, and maybe it sounded good to them. I just don't hear it in the song, and it doesn't sound good at all when I play it.But if you are a strummer and like good music, most of the chords are accurate, and you can use this to help you work through the songs and strum along. It's old music, but it's still great music, and I know I'll be spending more time playing this.

Just what I needed.
Everything was great. New. Thanks so much. Now I'm going to order Jose Feliciano's Light my fire if they have the guitar tab for it.

Love it
This is a pretty good book. Some of the cords aren't right and a few of the words are wrong (unless you are an avid MTB fan you might not notice) but overall it is a good book to get started playing some of the best songs ever written.

My husband loves it
My husband loves it, but I will be the lucky one who gets to listen while he's playing his guitar
