Hi Alyssa, no this was not heavy. The pillow is so light I could wrap my hand around the center with a single squeeze and with the addition of the ice pack, which was small and filled with freezer beads, I don't believe your mom will have the same level of discomfort. Also, think about using smaller gel packs as she won't feel the burden of a large ice pack, the weight would be distributed and she could remove whatever smaller pack was bothering her without losing all the packs at one time like with a large pack.
