VERY Helpful Book for People Working With Drug Discovery
Just received this book today, and had a chance to thumb through it. It is a very valuable resource if you have an interest in pharmacology, drug synthesis, drug discovery, or natural product chemistry (botanical medicines). Special thanks to Dr. Harrold and Dr. Zavod for putting so much time into the course development. My book arrived in excellent condition, and no problems with the pages. The book starts with some basic concepts from organic chem - just nomenclatures and functional groups. Then it digs deeper into what the various functional groups do ... for medicinal interactions. There is a lot of attention given to acid/base, water and lipid solubility, and drug binding interactions. Finally, the book dives into the topics of stereochrmistry and drug metabolism. These are topics that could be intimidating, but the authors manage to keep the work very readable and interesting. Highly recommended.

Good for pharmacy school
This college book for pharmacy school is really helpful. The beginning is very good for review, and the sections really explain topics more in detail than may be explained in class. It really helps with understanding the material. The book is smaller than a normal textbook and paperback with thin pages. I suggest this for anyone taking pharmacology or pharmaceutical sciences. I am sure there are also other programs this book would help with, but this past year this has been really helpful with my classes.

Medicinal Chemistry makes sense
This book makes Medicinal Chemistry make sense. It's laid out in easy to digest chapters with lots of examples and practice problems. Other books I've read on the subject aren't written for someone with not a lot of background in Chemistry, so they were difficult and muddy. Harrold and Zavod did a great job providing a breakdown of the fundamental pieces of Medicinal Chemistry. I honestly enjoyed reading this book and understand so much more of the foundational pieces I need for my continuing years in Pharmacy School. I would highly recommend everyone that's looking for a place to start or to solidify their skills to read this book. It's the one book I will definitely use over again.

Unorthodox Book
An entire chapter was not only bound to the book upside down, but in the reverse order. This means that when chapter 4 ends I have to go to chapter 6 and turn my book upside down and then I am now able to begin chapter 5. It also wastes valuable seconds, perhaps a minute, of my time on each occasion I need to find a specific page or structure within that chapter. This has depreciated the resale value of this book and let's be honest: reselling textbooks is about the best day in an academic calendar. A conservative estimate for how much this has hurt the value of this book is $2.50. So, Amazon I believe you owe me a King Size candy bar. When I exaggerate the value of my time and the frustration this errantly bound book caused I come to $179.99 and in that case Amazon owes me a pair of Bose headphones.

Great Book. Very Readable.
This book approaches concepts related to Medicinal Chemistry in a very understandable way. It does a great job reviewing some foundational chemistry concepts and expanding the material as it relates to Pharmacy. There are also great practice exercises at the end of the chapters that I found very helpful when preparing for assessments.

Great study tool!
This book has a lot of structures and examples that really helps tie all of the concepts together. Explainations are easy to follow even if you haven't had a chemistry class in years. Overall, a great review book for what different functional groups provide to the structure and function of a drug.

Decent Read
I think the book makes medicinal chemistry overview as interesting as it can be. It is surprisingly comprehensive because it is only roughly 480 pages long. Overall decent read if you need to brush up on chemistry basics.
