No, as long as a few inches rubs the ground

You can connect the strap to any bolt in a car so the end of it is dragging on the ground. I used the tale-pipe support bolt for connection. No more static shocks.

This strap has metal parts in the rubber, so it works as a conductor of static electricity between car's body and pavement, releasing static to the ground.
