Anyan's Story: A New Guinea Woman in Two Worlds (McLellan Endowed) Paperback – Import, 1 February 1997

This appears to be a good representation of conversations by an Anthropologist over a period of many months with Anyan.I appreciated the historical look into the perceptions of Anyan, a woman who grew up in PNG before the Australian colonial administration, and then was a wife and mother in Kainantu Government station through the early part of the colonial administration.It is a bit crude by American standards in places, since PNG culture can be rather matter-of-fact about many aspects of life that we Americans only reference with euphemisms. However it is at times transparent to the Tok Pisin that must have been at least one of the languages the interviews were conducted in - some of the English words used are word-for-word translations of Tok Pisin phrases. The Author doesn't state what the source language was. This depicts the life of the typical Eastern Highlander woman at the beginning of westernization in PNG.
