Sticks and stuff
Wood chips, sticks and stuff. It looks more like a cheap raised bed soil. I would give it 3 stars but I will wait for my seeds to germinate. From this point forward I will make my own seed starting mix.

I get over 90% germination rate with this seed starter
I have used this seed starter for two years now, I ran out last year and purchased another brand locally, boy what a mistake! I bought two large bags this February so I would not run short! I have had great results using a small amount in the holes I prepare to plant Zinnias, FourO' clocks and Echanachia. I won't use anything else. There of seven varieties of tomatoes I am propagating now have a 100% germination rate and the other 4 are over 90%.

Great germination rate!
I wasn't sure how to rate this product for thickness. The purpose of seed starter is to be light and have air pockets for young roots to develope. I have had great success with my germination rate.

Drainage problems
I had a lot of problems with drainage. Lost a lot of seedlings to rot despite not watering. Have had much better results in previous years.

Great stuff
Saw another review knocking this soil for having some composting material in it. Nothing to worry about. There’s nowhere near enough to make the soil hot or cause mutations in yer seedlings. I use it with high success for both sprouting and cloning. Great soil.

Excellent mix
This is actually my favorite soil mix product made by COM. Excellent quality blend of compost, peat, and low-dose organic nutes. Bar Harbor & Stonington Blend seem too heavy to me, and Sprout Island also seems more of a coarse, firbrous consistency which I prefer. Castine Blend is not suitable for container growing IMO.They never seem to add enough aeration, this needs more perlite & vermiculite for germinating seeds or growing fruiting/flowering plants in containers. No complaints though, it's cheaper to buy perlite in bulk and mix it in yourself.

Excellent for cannabis
This soil is awesome as a base to make super soil or works well by itself. Very cost effective. I used the soil mixed with outdoor soil, compost, crab meal, azomite, composted cow manure, guinea pig hay/alfalfa/manure and whatever else I had.The soil has kelp, worm castings, perlite and mycorrhiza and at a ph 6.3 which is perfect for cannabis and saves buying the separate ingredients therefore a great value in my opinion. My plants are all doing excellent the tomatoes are doing great too you can’t go wrong with coast of Maine I haven’t had a bad product with them.
