The Waffen SS Ardennes Offensive: Rare Photographs from Wartime Archives (Images of War)

A good addition for photo reference.
Mr. Baxter has several books in the Images of War Series, and for the most part I enjoy seeing many images that I have never seen before. The text describing each image is very informative. I liked this book but would like to point out that the description of the image on page 99 is wrong, in my opinion. It should read 'German prisoners carry a dead American soldier.', not carrying a wounded German soldier. The image was taken in February 1945.

Last throw of the dice in the Ardennes...
In the winter of 1944-45, the Second World War was going badly for Germany. The Soviets were pushing in from the East. British and American armies were on the western borders of Germany. Hitler resolved on one last throw of the dice.Wacht am Rhein was Hitler's counteroffensive, using hurriedly plussed up Waffen-SS units thrusting through the Belgian Ardennes. This Images of War book captures the offensive in period black and white photographs, assisted by a very concise narrative. The photographs display lots of the German armor, half-tracks, and other vehicles, along with details of the winter uniforms. Recommended to students of the conflict.
