Instructions were easy to follow, but you may want to take time to weigh down and flatten the "Stick-It" backing panel, which is shipped tightly coiled. It is much easier to work with if you flatten it first.

I purchased this because I like projects and needed a shade for a lamp that I purchased from a yard sale.When I first opened and read the directions, I was intimidated and thought that I would almost certainly screw up the project. But, I got to shopping for fabric, that was fun, and after putting it off for a while, decided to tackle the construction phase.First off, it took about 1-2 hours for me start to finish. As soon as I began working with the materials, I could tell they were higher quality than what I was used to. The double sided tape was high tack and the direction recommend that if you screw up alignment to go back and correct your error. If it were inferior tape, that would be impossible, the tape would lose it's capacity for adhesion as soon as you pulled it away again.Eventually I finished my lamp shade. It came out almost perfect, without any major flaws that I had initially envisioned. No crinkles or dents. Great product.

This is a kit for making a small lamp shade. The dimensions of the finished shade are 6” tall by 8” in diameter, straight-sided with no tapers. Included in the kit is a piece of sticky backing, 2 wire frames (top and bottom), a small roll of double-sided tape for the seam and attachment to the frames, some oversized plastic washers for fitting the shade to different styles of lamps, and a small cardboard tool for finishing the attachment to the frames. Plus a paper instruction sheet with photos. Additional tools that you will need for this project are scissors and/or a craft knife and a seam roller (recommended but not necessary).I found this shade fun but challenging to make. This would be a really tough project to do with young kids, but perhaps teens could handle it if they work with fabric and tools frequently. The finished shade is just 6” tall, so it is best for small lamps. The frame is quite sturdy, and it looks like this shade will last a good long time. Overall, this is a great creative project, but it may be difficult for youngsters or beginners.
