Q: what are the exact measurements that fit in the stake pocket? i know it is 3 1/2" wide or long but what is the depth? my pockets are 3 1/2" x 1 1/2"

I would say you are missing about 1/2 of the stake pocket. The standard stake pocket on a trailer would be closer to 3" tall. (most rub rails welded to them are 2 to 2.5" wide) So i am afraid this unit may not be a fit for you.
