This came boxed in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag of sorts, and as soon as I began cutting through the wrapping, it began to "inflate," as promised on the packing slip. It is NOT lightweight or small. We bought the Full Size (Double) for our standard futon frame, and I must say, it is really thick and well-cushioned. As it was still expanding with the atmosphere, you could hear/feel the coil springs that are in the center of the materials. After it has had about 2-3 days of adjusting outside the packaging now, it is quite comfortable to lay on briefly. I'm not quite to the 72 hours of letting it "rest" and expand yet, so I haven't laid down on it for more than a few seconds. We also haven't tried to fold it into the seating position, but I have serious doubts that it will do so without a fight. It's almost too plush and thick for being used as a seat for too long - it seems more fit to be left as a bed. If so, it is likely going to be a very popular mattress for our guest bedroom, as it seems to be made for sleeping comfort vs. sitting around on. That's fine for our purposes, but be aware that it will fight you at first if you use it as a couch. It also has a bit of a new odor that the packaging states is normal for a while until it breathes more. It isn't obnoxious or off-putting, so we don't mind. It smells like new fabric/material of any kind. The cover is a nice color of blue (our selection) and soft to the touch - not scratchy. I think we will be very happy with this purchase. I'll update the review after we have some time spent sleeping/sitting on it after the break-in period is over.

Downsizing my bedroom furniture. Went from a queen bed to a full size futon. Went through so many choices & info and decided this one might be ok. For me, it has been way better than OK. It is so comfortable!! It can be turned & flipped so it will wear evenly. It can be a bed or sofa cushion. I sleep without fighting the mattress or tossing & turning to find a comfortable position. I did buy a waterproof cover to prevent sweat penetration & spills from nightstand drinks. Really I am pleased with this purchase. I have not yet tried to fold it so only 3 stars there. It is a 5 star in my book.

We ordered this mattress to replace an older one on my existing futon. When deciding which size to order, my husband said 10" is fine. It is a very comfortable mattress! However, due to the thickness, it will not form into a sitting position. It is now a bed. We could not determine this until we took it out of the box and put it on the futon. We probably would have sent it back to get a thinner one, but how do you get this thing into a box? And it is extremely heavy after it aborbs air. Who would pick it up? So we do now have a very comfortable bed, only.

Give this mattress time to expand like the instructions say. I thought I was disappointed in the product when I realized that it really does expand like the instructions say that it does. Great mattress and very comfortable.

I'm not happy. From another review I could see there is actually very little foam inside to expand. And after 3 days, it's barely 6" thick at its widest point. And it's certainly not thick and will definitely fold easily. But I'm still considering returning it despite the effort boxing and shipping it would take.

Awesome futon, so comfy. The 12” depth makes it hard to fold, though!

So yes, it's true.. this mattress is NOT the advertised 8 inches! Barely makes 5.5-6inches in thickness.. AND it does have an odd smell that after two weeks is still apparent but not unbearable.. BUT it is SUPER COMFORTABLE and my kids love it so I really can't ask for more in a futon mattress. All that to say, yes, the reviews are mostly true.. but don't be completely turned off by the extremely negative ones bc the mattress was not as bad as some of the reviews make it seem. Also, my biggest worry was that the mattress wouldn't be thick enough which meant feeling the metal futon frame rods when laying on it.. but it was not so. I don't feel the rods and it sleeps very comfortably. I gave it 4 stars bc tho there was false advertising, I was satisfied with the quality enough to be mostly happy with the purchase.

Unwrapped and left on the floor to puff up for a few days, and it did puff up quite a bit in those two days. (There was a blob joke or two as I recall). I replaced a thinner mattress and this wants to fight a bit to fold into the sitting futon shape at first, but it's stopped trying to spring out after a few more days of acclimation. The sleeping couch area is less wide then the mattress it replaced due to the thickness of this mattress (a problem if you are a person who needs a wide area to lay on and for us, a bit on the tight side for two reasonable sized folks laying side by side.) but my goodness this thing is very comfortable. a bit bouncy and a bit firm. Very comfortable. We've covered it with a blanket but the cover that it comes in is strong. I did not feel like it was going to rip when I picked it up to move it around just grabbing into the cloth, there are no handles or straps sewn in. IT DOES NOT HAVE any strange chemical smell. Some of the things you buy on line have odd smells or textures. This is is fine.
