Alliance (Fringe Colonies Book 1)

Future fiction not just science fiction
Maybe I am a traditionalist but I like my science fiction to be set in a plausible future. Talia Becket met my needs and developed a future that seems plausible without being over the top. The characters in the book have personality and foibles that make them real. As the story develops so do the characters and I am keen to read more in the series and see where the plot development takes them.

Pirates, Space, Friends
I've really like this book. I'm not normally much of a sci-fi reader, but as a reader of the author's other books, I picked this up. And I really liked it. Think I will look into finding more sci-fi books. It's essentially pirates in space. In the same way Firefly was like cowboys in space, this is pirates in space. They even use swords! I like that because in a spaceship you don't really want to shoot bullets.

Brilliant first instalment of a series
I really enjoyed reading this book and following the adventures of Kit and Dante. I honestly cannot wait to read the next one!

Polite piracy in space.
I mildy enjoyed this book although I had to suspend disbelief pretty firmly. At the heart of this book is the idea that all the trade ship crews working together will not get ripped off by the extortionate practices of supplier Varun. There's also pirates for the crews to contend with. These are Nerf pirates: They effectively farm the crews for a cut of their wares by disabling their ships, grappling them to board and overwhelming them in fight-and-submit hand to hand combat. The pirates and the crews are very careful to avoid serious injuries, and anything other than stealing property is an accident. It reminded me of the old A team in that respect.
