Intriguing!
This is the original book that is the same as "God's Devil" by the same author. An interesting read about a topic that is hard to understand for many.

Satan's rebellion
Touch down! I loved this book. I was thrown off a bit by the by the folklore information on Dante, Milton and Goethe but the author was simply showing how these writings inflenced our thinking of the devil. He talks about what caused satan to rebell against God in that he wanted to be like God and he wanted to be worshiped and that he saught to convince man to follow him by buying into his dream. He coves the lie of reincarnation, esotericism, pantheism, relativism and hedonism which all have their roots in the lies told in the garden. When angels sin their sin only affected them but when Adam & Eve sinned the consequences were pasted on to their seed. He covered beautifully how Jesus came to pay the penalty for our sin so that God could be both loving and just. Then he finished it all off by explaining how and when satan will be cast out of heaven and his final humiliation of being tormented in the lake of fire for all eternity. This information is truely beneficial to the believer who wants to be victorious and avoid traps set to cause us to fall and remain in a fallen state. I highly recommend it, the information contained will heighten your discernment.

Good Read
Personally thought that "The Serpent of Paradise" was a good read. Very basic but scriptural on the traps and doings of Satan and his demons. I've recently gotten into reading on spiritual warfare and the works of Satan against the believers(no new age, only scriptural based). A couple of books that i would recommend are Angels:Elect and Evil by C.Fred Dickason(discusses in detail about the workings and duties of angels and about demons-all based on scripture) also Francis Frangipane's "The Three Battlegrounds: An In-Depth View of the Three Arenas of Spiritual Warfare: The Mind, the Church and the Heavenly Places". I just ordered it and read some of it on line on amazon. Appears to have good scriptural reference to the battles we face daily.Getting back to Lutzer's book, I would recommend it, it was an easy read but it kept me intrigued and was able to complete it fairly quickly.

Great addition to a library
R.C. Sproul writes the forward to this book, and writes that it is the best treatment of the devil that he has ever read. Lutzer does a great job of answering practical questions about heaven and hell, the devil, and demonic possession. I found his discussion of demonic possession to be the most level headed approach I have ever read. I am probably going to reread this soon, in order to take in all that it offers.

I've always wanted to know about this
I always wondered why God would allow Satan's existence after his rebellion. Why would God create Satan knowing he would rebel in the first place? This book offers great insight into to problem of evil and the existence of Satan. It's very encouraging to know that God is in control of all things, and that Jesus has the keys of hell and hades. Even when things seem to be going totally wrong, God can turn what was intended for evil for your good.

Good book, but not quite what I hoped for...
I am a small group leader, and needed both a historical and theological perspective regarding Satan. Pastor Lutzer provides some limited historical material, but his main focus is the theological aspects concerning Satan and his relationship to our all-powerful God. Despite the limited historic information, it is still quite a good book about Satan, and I highly recommend it. I really appreciate Pastor Lutzer's religious books!
