Great, original take on a Reaper romance
I loved the creativity that went into Torn. I've read a lot of books with some form of Reapers, but this is definitely one of the best! I can't wait to find out what happens next, especially to learn more about Cas!

I enjoyed this book a lot.
So I enjoyed this book a lot. Laney is a good character and a good narrator since we see most of the book from her point of view (we do see 2 other peoples POV but only for a few chapters in the book). We learn about the lightbringers and shadowbringers as Laney does so we learn things as she learns them. This was very fast paced and easy to understand and overall enjoyable. The romance was super fluffy and super cute. There was a plot twist/ plot point that I did guess would happen but I didn’t happen the way I thought it would so it still caught me by surprise so it was still enjoyable.

Great start to an intriguing new series!
What an amazing start to a new series. The characters are likable and the world-building is intriguing.Laney is a shy high school girl who, along with her best friend Leon, witnessed a tragic event where not everything was quite as it seemed. She wants to forget all about it, and Leon is happy to let her until tragedy strikes again, and Laney realizes the world isn’t as normal as she hoped it to be, and neither is she. Now she’s caught not only in the middle of a supernatural world she has to learn to navigate, but between two boys—one a lightbringer, and the other a shadowbringer. This book has such an interesting take on reapers and the roles and negotiations they play when determining where a soul goes once it leaves the body, that it easily had me turning the pages to find out more. With the twists, turns, and a major jaw-drawing moment, I will definitely be reading the next book in the series to find out what happens next, especially in regards to Cas. I think there is more to him than meets the eye, and I can wait to see how the mystery of his character unravels.

begrudgingly long but worth it for the ending.
This book dragged on soooo long. I was so over the delay. And i was SCREAMING at Lainy for being so stupid and not listening to grandma. Ignoring both her warnings. I wanted to pummel her. Geez. But the end of the book? The mothers stories and Cas admission / Leon’s betrayal? I knew Leon was no good. In my bones i felt it. He may be a good guy, but he’s selfish. I’m not even sure he actually cares about Lainey. Now off to book 2.

A good story
This is a goof story foundation. The author should have taken the time to really flesh it out, and create full characters that the reader could invest in. More description, better use of grammar, and not rushing the story along could have made a truly good book. But the story itself was interesting and, for the most part, original.
