Best book for family or care givers and me, the patient.
This book has been so helpful in understanding kidney disease and the importance of respecting a low salt, low potassium diet. The recipes are not so unreasonable like some of the other books I have purchased. CKD is not the end if you start early to take good care of yourself NOW.

Want to Learn More about Renal Nutrition?!
I am not going to lie, as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I can sometimes get a little confused with all the recommendations for the renal diet. However, when Emily’s book was published, I just had to learn more and was given an advance copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. One of the best parts of her book was how well she explained everything and that it was all backed with evidence-based research. She discusses the basics of renal nutrition, the nutritional recommendations for each stage, and what foods to have in each stage. She also does an excellent job providing additional resources in the back of her book.Along with all the information, she provides a lot of delicious recipes. All the recipes that I have made so far were easy to make and did not require a lot of ingredients.Easy Huevos Rancheros: This was such a great recipe to wake up to and it worked perfectly for meal prep! A lot of the components could easily be prepared beforehand and then assembled the day of. The dish had so many textures and all the flavors married together beautifully. I can’t wait to make this again soon.Lemon-Dill Chickpea Salad Sandwich: These types of sandwiches are becoming more popular, and I am glad that Emily put one in her cookbook. This sandwich packed a lot of great flavors and it kept me full throughout the day. Although it was a little challenging to mash the chickpeas together, I think adding another ingredient to bind it all together would help.Tuna Avocado Wrap: Although I served this recipe on toast, it still made an awesome and quick lunch. The tuna and the avocado paired beautifully together, and all the ingredients helped make the tuna not as fishy. With all the flavors, the sandwich ended up being fresh, bright, and creamy. It also saved well throughout the week for meal prep.Chocolate Bean Brownies: If you can’t decide whether you like cakey or fudgy brownies, then this is the recipe for you. Although I added more chocolate chips on top and in the batter, I really enjoyed making and eating these brownies. They have a great texture, and a little bit goes a long way. The cook time was also correct when baking them.Simply put, this book is awesome! It is such a great resource on renal nutrition; Emily has broken up all the information into bite-size pieces and she has helped me learn more as a dietitian. Also, I cannot forget that her recipes are absolutely delicious. I am looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next!

The Renal Diet Cookbook for Caregivers is a great support tool!
I was provided with an advance review copy. When I first started looking through the cookbook, I jumped straight to page 46, why? Because a gorgeous picture of a Raspberry-Vanilla Smoothie was on the opposite page of the table of contents with the page number for the recipe. As a dietitian I wanted to look at the nutrition facts at the end of the recipe. I work with stage 5 patients on dialysis. This is a stage 4 recipe which opens up the conversation by asking the question, "When can a person with kidney failure have this yummy concoction?" I often review lab results with caregivers and take the opportunity to discuss the sources of phosphorus and the bioavailability of phosphorus. This book offers this information starting on page 130 which is a nice reference for caregivers that can benefit from this very useful tool. There are some great suggestions in the 'Meal Planning for Two' section.I think that another great book should be in the works from this talented author. I'd call it "Leftovers, the Main Ingredient of Creative Cooking". It would certainly help clean out the fridge and cut down on food waste, which would be very helpful for anyone on a budget.

A great resource full of tasty meals and encouragement!
This is an excellent resource, no matter if you are just beginning to take care of someone with renal disease or have been doing so for a while. It begins with an easy to read, basic guide that explains the stages of kidney disease and how diet plays an important role in managing it. The book includes a variety of recipes, but what is most helpful is that each recipe is identified as to which stage of CKD it is appropriate to serve. You can see this information on each recipe page, but it is also included on each section's table of contents as a quick reference guide, making sure you don't have to thumb through the whole book looking for recipes for specific stages. There are also meal plans for each stage and which give you a weeks worth of 3 meals plus 2 snacks per day. As a caregiver for a family member currently on dialysis, I see firsthand the difficulties of finding tasty meals that follow the dietary restrictions. This book will give us many more options and ideas to brighten what has so far been "ho-hum" and boring meals. As a bonus, there is much needed encouragement and support woven throughout the book. Overall, an excellent resource to have on hand!I was provided with an advanced copy by the publisher.

Incredibly Easy Book to Follow Overall
The title of this book tells how to maintain a diet for someone you care for with renal problems. In my estimation, it is a vital book that should be in the hands of all caregivers. At the same time, it's also a book for those with renal malaise that need to maintain a healthy kidney/adrenal diet for themselves. The recipes in this book are simple to follow, the food easily made, with a wide variety of recipes. There is even a section for vegetarians. What I like most are the sections and measurements of components in the foods that are harmful, like phosphorus. These sections are covered quiet in-depth without putting the reader on overload. When millions either have kidney disease or are staving it off, or those suffering from diabetes too, this book belongs in the hands of every one of these people. I highly recommend this book.
