This is an excellant collection of poetry which I enjoy. Some of the poems are very moving, some are just plain funny but all are profound. This book has become a constant companion on my own journey and I would recommend to anyone, Christian or not, who wants to get beneath the surface and look at whether there is a meaning and purpose to what we do and who we are.I like the fact that the old is mixed with the new and it is ordered by theme. Often it reflects my mood and I simply find it a joy to dip in and out of it. Whilst some of the poems are very hard hitting others are more gentle in conveying their message, but it is a real antidote to the aggression and antagonism of the atheist movement.

This anthology brings together Christian poetic writing from over 1000 years. Published in 2001 it lacks writers from the 21st Century and for that reason would benefit from a fresh revision and why I have given it a rating of 4 not 5. That being said it provides me with a constant source of inspiration - simply for pleasure, prayer or private reflection or for those moments when you would like some special words for a card or letter to family or friend. The poems are arranged by topic including Daily Life, Time and Eternity, Pen Portraits, and Person to Person, with sub-divisions in each section so it quite simple to locate relevant material quickly. I have found the collection a place of regular respite and joy.

This is a substantial book full of lovely surprises. There is nothing lightweight about it and if you are looking for something to slip in your pocket this is not the poetry book for you. There are hours of pleasure to be had from familiar and less well known poems, some simple & some more challenging. If you enjoy browsing or just want to check our a favourite poet you will enjoy this volume. The print and the layout are clear & it is a pleasing book to handle.

This is an exellent book it was bought as a present but I have had a copy for many years. The poetry is a good mix of both modern and older verse and has verses for all occasions. If you need some religious poetry this is the book for you.
