I use it carefully and it works, but is sometimes messy
I have had mine for 6 months, and it is still working. I use it for water for my cpap, and also for my coffee pot to prevent calcium buildup inside. After carefully reviewing reviews, I am careful to set a timer and turn it off before it finishes. You can also tell by looking at the catching container and how full it is. It has worked consistently, but there are a few considerations. I am sure the more expensive ones are easier to use, but they are a lot more expensive.* There is no power button, only a reset button that doesn't do much good. You must plug/unplug it to turn it on and off, or have a smart plug or a power source with an on/off switch.* You must set it to 108 when you turn it on, if you are distilling water. Otherwise it reaches 95 and then turns itself off. Then you have to let it cool a little before you can turn it back on.* The catching lid (the open one with a guard on one side) is difficult to position. If it is not positioned correctly, water will go everywhere. This is my biggest issue.* As others have mentioned, it gets rather loud, but I think not loud enough to interfere with other things. My television sits about 15 feet away from it, and I don't notice it much when watching tv.* The lid attaches to the machine by an electric cord, and it makes it a hassle to fill or clean.A few other notes about using:* Set a timer and stop it before it stops itself. I have read that it extends the life, and I know that it also makes cleaning much easier. Most of the calcium in my water turns to flakes that swirl in the water, but if allowed to run till dry, it leaves a scaly residue that doesn't rinse out.* Wash it after every use. As the water remaining inside the distiller cools it will reach optimum temperature for algae growth. You don't have to do the descale cleaning every time, though. Just when it looks like it needs it.All in all, I think it was a good purchase. I've had mine for just over 6 months, using it 2-3 times a week. A few times I have forgotten to set a timer, and a few times I've forgotten to set the temperature, but most of the time I remember, and I think that's a good part of the reason it's still working well.

Works Great
Have used it a few times and works very well. Love the temperature control, and very simple to set up.

Works great! Perfect!
A kind of hard pour out of the glass container. I had to use large funnel or pour it into a pitcher to use it.

works well.
Overall we like the water distiller. The instructions are written in clear easy to read English. The instructions are complete and thorough. The distiller works well. Having tried another distiller we are impressed how fast this one works. Distills about a gallon of water in about 60% of the time the other one took. We like this distiller. The only thing negative is the base is a little wide and the carafe to catch the water is pushed slightly too far away. We just prop up the far end of the carafe so it leans in closer at the top and it works perfectly. It is not inconvenient so we keep this and we are happy with it.

People are giving bad reviews due to user error
It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I wish I would have bought one years ago.All of these outraged, one star reviews with pics and complaints of electrical issues and corroded outlets aren't adjusting the distiller lid properly. This causes steam to condense around the top of the cord and flow down to the outlet, shorting it out, and corrosion occurs. It isn't a hassle or anything, there is no extra effort. We just have to be careful and monitor for leaks until you get the hang of it, then you don't have to. We just need to be more aware, that's all. :)They're frying their systems and blaming the unit.

Exactly what I needed
I purchased the variable temp model with the glass container. I'm a month into it and it's been great. The first few batches had the odor/taste everyone else has mentioned but the instructions did say to discard the first few batches to get rid of manufacturing artifacts. It's amazing how much crud is in tap water.Pros: Easy to use. It's easier than making coffee. Fill the pot, put on the lid, plug it all in.Distills fast. The variable temp model can go up to 108 degrees Celcius and I'm able to get a gallon in about 2.5 - 3 hrs if I start off with hot water out of the tap to begin with.Easy to clean. I mean, it's a big pot. Put in the supplied detergent which I believe is just citric acid. Let it sid. Wipe and rinse.Glass container. I paid extra for the glass container. Well worth it, imho. It is hefty when full so be sure handed when working with it.Includes carbon filtering. Even though the distillation process removes almost all contaminants, the carbon filter helps with the VOC's. I also dump mine into a Brita pitcher with filter. Not that I need the extra filter but because I don't have another pitcher to store water in. I haven't been able to tell a diff between using the Brita and just using the glass container for storage. I haven't ran a particle counter or anything but I probably will get one at some point. The glass container comes with 2 opening lids. One is a guide to the dispense nozzle. The other is just to cover the opening. Pretty handy.Cons: Fan noise. It's not any noisier than the fan above my range but it's still noise nonetheless. I don't care but some people might find it annoying. No power switch. I really don't care that there isn't one but it'd be handy to not have to unplug it to power it off. I have a timer switch on mine so that cares of that. The opening on the glass container isn't spouted. Not a huge issue because at least the opening isn't right at the edge but it would be nice to have a spout. The glass container lid is designed to be somewhat permanent. You can still carefully pop it off but I don't see the reason it needs to be on there so tight.Tips: I prefer not to let it hit the auto shut off point. This helps prevent the deposits from hardening on the bottom and makes it easier to clean. I've got a timer switch on my outlet but I also set an alarm because the timer switch hasn't shut off a few times. The fan can be ran separate of the main unit. Just get another cable like the one main cable. I've got a bunch of them laying around from old computers and guitar amps. That way the fan keeps running after the unit shuts off. It wont' be distilling but it helps get things a little cooler sooner for when you pop the lid off.Starting with hot water can shave off some time. Also take care when the process is finished because both containers will be hot. If you have a room you want warmed up a bit, put it in there. Or if you have a room you don't want warmed up, obviously don't put in there. On days I'm working from home, I've put the freshly brewed container under my desk to keep my feet my warm. Socks on of course. Don't be gross.

Works as expected!
I've only used it to make distilled water, so I can't comment on using it for anything else, but so far I've made several gallons and it continues to work like a charm

Fire hazard
Plug melted while in use, a fire hazard. Seller would not respond to my claim. Do not buy! Dangerous. Glad we were home to catch this.

Beautiful Piece of Equipment
This distiller really is quite attractive, even beautiful. It arrived well packaged and protected, with all the parts. I'm currently running some water through it now for a test run, and for cleaning any residual chemicals left over from the manufacturing process. I'll do that a few times to make sure it is really clean inside before distilling anything I'm going to drink. Although, to be fair, it looks absolutely spotless inside, and no oily residues, at all, are visible. It looks exactly like the pictures on the item page. Note, if you have not selected the 'Stainless Steel. Temperature Controlled.' model, then the one you receive may look very different. I see that there are basic white and red models. There is also a red model (with temperature control). This review is for the stainless steel adjustable temperature control model only. I daresay that the red version looks and probably works exactly the same, just the colour is different. There seems to be some confusion in the reviews as to whether the temperature can be adjusted or not. If you have the temperature controlled model, then yes, but if you have the basic model, then no, the temperature is fixed and cannot be adjusted. It's very easy to put together. Just put the top piece on top of the boiling kettle. Plug in the cables. Set the temperature you want to distil at, and you're off. Mine is the adjustable temperature model, so I can use it to distil water or make essential oils, or even distil alcohol, where legal, of course.Note to people here in Canada, you do not 'make alcohol' by distilling. Alcohol is perfectly legal to make in the form of beer or wine, or even just fermenting sugar and water with yeast. That is what 'makes alcohol'. Distilling is a purification method, which unfortunately, is not currently legal here in Canada. Please be aware of that before you even think about distilling any alcohol from your home brew. You might however be able to distil fuel alcohol, but I don't know what the laws are regarding that.As the instructions said it would, it began producing distillate after about half an hour, and that was starting with water straight from the tap, although it would likely work a little faster with hot water. It has so far produced about 500ml in 20 minutes. After 1 hour and 10 minutes, I have collected 1.5 litres. I think that's a pretty good first run.The glass collection jug is nice and thick, and a bit better looking than a plastic jug. Probably healthier too, although that might be debated. It even comes complete with a silicone ring on the bottom so that it will not slide around on the counter, an added bonus. It looks very much like a glass coffee pot.I haven't put the handle on the jug yet, which is attached by two thin steel bands which go around the outside of the container. I'm not sure how it will stand up to lifting a full jug of water, but will update this review as I play around with the setup over the next few weeks and months. So far, I am pleased with the purchase and like the look of the device, the ease of operation, and the price was pretty good too. Throw in free shipping, and I think it's a great deal for what looks to be a solid piece of kit.I will update this review as I experience this device over the next few weeks and months. I hope this helps.Update: This machine works flawlessly for distilling water and other things (where legal), and it works fast too. I also should note that even though the outer body of the kettle portion, of the distiller, gets warm, it is not so hot as to cause any harm if you touch it. In fact, even at 100 degrees C., I put my hand on the outside and was able to hold it there for a minute or so without any discomfort. Please note, I tested it for a second or two before putting my hand on it. I don't recommend anyone holding their hands on a hot kettle, unless they know for sure it won't burn them. I am assuming that this distiller must be of an insulated double wall design, which prevents the outer wall from getting dangerously hot. It's a feature I wasn't expecting to be honest, and it makes me love this distiller all the more.Thumbs up to this distiller, for its safety features, its performance and for the ability to do what it says it will do.

The aluminum container that holds the water, broke on the seam and now it is useless
The product worked fine until the entire seam fell apart. It will no longer hold water. This is a manufacturing error and nothing I have done. This item is now useless. Complete waste of money. It would have cost less to just buy the distilled water. Heck, anything would have been a better purpose. I just wanted to drink pure water, and now this is garbage. I am rethinking buying stuff from Amazon.

Vinegar
Very happy! there is detergent that is added but id say vinegar is way better, turn the heat up and add vinegar and it will eventually look brand new. I had a very thick wall of calcium and the inside looks brand new every time i do that. Very happy with my purchase so far, is on about 20 hours per day for fish tank and aerogarden as well as drinking waterUpdate….ordered May 2019 and today is 2021 November 14…. Still using this 2 to 3 times weekly and it still works perfect. Not our favourite for drinking water so we use zero water pitchers but for fish tank and AeroGarden it is great
