Good combination of introduction and detail
Too many popular books are written to the lowest common denominator, frustrating to those looking for solid information. That is not this book. While certainly an introduction, it goes into a satisfying amount of detail, worth reading to the scientifically literate who need this kind of information.

Great reference book for the field
Easy to follow and understand. All pictures and diagrams are in color. Dougal Jerram (Dr. Volcano) presents the science of Volcanology from basic concepts to more advanced topics from active and dormant volcanoes around the world. This is a must have field guide for anyone interested in the Geosciences.

Good Coverage for an Introductory Text
This small book could be likened to the " TARDIS" . It is packed with much information and is well illustrated with many coloured photographs and diagrams , including geological sections . This text would be very useful for graduates studying geology and linked subjects , although more senior professionals , or lay-people would find it interesting . Its price makes it affordable for students . A worthwhile purchase .

Great read for anyone with an interest in Volcanoes!
I developed an interest in volcanoes after the Icelandic volcano erupted last year and grounded all of the aircraft in Europe, and wanted to know more about these fascinating natural phenomena. This book is just perfect. It gives really detailed, interesting information about volcanoes but is written in such a way that someone who is not a geologist (such as myself!) can easily understand. I would definitely recommend to anyone with an interest in 'Hot Rocks'!!

Informative.
This was a present for a young man whose interests lie in this area. Not too high brow but informative enough to entertain and use as a reference guide.
