Relevant to each Employee, Executive and Everyone inbetween
When first starting this book, I was not sure that all of the subjects within would apply to me, even though I was highly interested. Was I in for a surprise! Jacob Morgan writes with purpose and intent about “The Employee Experience” that I never realized I was missing. Finishing this piece was not only equivalent to turning on a light bulb, it was more as if I felt I was turning over the key to start a new race car. Every chapter filled me with inspiration and knowledge for what I want in a company and how I would want to help change every other business currently operating.Morgan sets the premise in the first section, explaining that In the past, companies attracted talent by necessity - everyone had to work because everyone needed money to survive. Now, talent is being fought over. In order to do this, organizations have to create places employees WANT to be, instead of places they HAVE to be. In the following sections, he goes on in detail to describe how to shift the work experience to one that increases satisfaction. This way, instead of viewing work as “drudgery” and a purchase of an employee’s time, work itself is transformed into something that a paycheck simply rewards.Something that many of us, employees and executives alike, fail to grasp is the difference between cosmetic changes that occur in employment engagement strategies and deeper, more meaningful and satisfying changes that happen when employee experience is taken into consideration. Even though these two terms have been used synonymously before, Morgan uses clear definitions and an abundance of examples to explain why it is so important to distinguish them. In order to properly explain this, Morgan applies 17 attributes to “the employee experience” through a series of acronyms: COOL (in reference to physical workspace) ACE (in reference to technology) and CELEBRATED (in reference to the cultural environment). Each of the acronyms are thoroughly explained through their own chapters which include tips on how to implement each step as well as examples of companies that both exemplify and underperform in the attribute at hand. At first I was skeptical about the use of acronyms, as it felt like a self-help book that was too good to be true, but I quickly remembered them and was easily able to mentally catalog the vast amount of information in the book by using them.He does not bypass the ever changing world of technology and how this impacts the employee experience. In the final section, and one of my favorite and most surprising chapters I read- while suggesting how to optimize and implement the practices explained throughout previous chapters he leaves no excuses for large corporations to skimp due to data overload. Morgan incorporates the idea of artificial intelligence and how it can help with feedback when dealing with multi-thousand employee companies and feedback from each individual.I appreciate so much about “The Employee Experience Advantage”. The application of relevant, elegant and easy-to-read diagrams and graphs stood out above all. In a data-heavy, concept heavy book such as this, these visual representations helped tremendously. They were well-executed and even in the financial chapter, where any graph could easily get confusing, each image was clearly explained in a manner that someone who has not taken an analytics course can understand. This book is an absolute necessity for any organization seeking to not only to hire more talented people, but also to retain those that they already have. It is not only for the executive- it is for the frontline employee, the human resource staff and everyone in between.

Very practical information for businesses and business owners
I feel it is important when reading a business book that you should be able to take something away that you can apply. In this respect, Jacob Morgan’s Employee Experience Advantage is a true gem. This book presents the importance of the employee experience in the modern landscape of employment. I can honestly say as a small business owner, that this is an area I had never even considered. However, within a short few chapters, the importance of this information really hit home. Any business struggles to obtain talented individuals to join their team. And they all try hard to keep them engaged in the day-to-day work that each business does. As any business owner or manager understands, these are very hard things to accomplish.Jacob Morgan goes into great detail in explaining the importance of the workplace the employees are present in, the technology that they use, and the culture of the business environment to in attracting talent, motivating employees and in retaining these individuals. His work is infused with very intricate research and a plethora of interviews with managers from a variety of top notch companies. He goes into great detail in explaining the particular items to strive for in physical environment, technologies used, and in cultural improvements that have an impact on a company’s employees. He further goes on to show how big corporations stack up in these areas. In my own situation, I can clearly see where my own business has failed its employees and where we have done all the right things. Most importantly, it gives me a direction in which to point my business in the future towards the goal of attracting and retaining good employees. One point he makes that many others miss is the importance of keeping employees engaged in helping the business to attain its goals. And Mr. Morgan has certainly motivated me in that area to make improvements. The only short coming I find in his book is his reference to how many national and international businesses stack up in each area. While this is useful information, I think many readers will come from smaller organizations and will have trouble comparing their own situations to those of these big corporations. He doesn’t spend any time referencing the impact on smaller businesses. As I feel a number of readers will come from small businesses, and his information can impact them, too, I think this is an area that would benefit from expansion in this bookHowever, in short, I found this book to be a truly useful and eye opening business text. As many business books fall short of having anything truly applicable, this puts the Employee Experience Advantage in very select company.

I found this book very useful, especially for HR professionals
I found this book very useful, especially for HR professionals. It is a well-written, interesting book. Jacob Morgan has gathered many data from around 250 organizations and framed a very complex structure in a simple way. Even though the book has a scientific base, I think Jacob did a great job on presenting it in a smart way without detailed statistics etc. Therefore, even if you are not good at research methods, you can still understand the concept easily and implement the suggestions in your own organizations.

There are very few books that have been as well informed by reality than Jacob Morgan's Employee Experience Advantage. Jacob build most of his content off the back of hundreds of C-level and HR level professionals - as well as running his own FOW organisation - and does as much listening as he does broadcasting. I think his insight into the physical, technical/digital and cultural components that make up the daily perception of employees is both simple, but again, well tested and evidenced. Similar to Marcus Buckingham's Gallup Poll approaches, but perhaps even more insightful based on years of deep dive interviews with those living the challenge of making the workplace an exciting, collaborative, innovative and creative space to spend productive time, Jacob's approach is refreshing and provides a non-academic/theoretical approach to a very real and visceral challenge - How do we create the best possible experiences for human beings to flourish and seek their highest potential whilst contributing to an accelerated organisational outcome? More needs to be written on the subject, as it's certainly powerful to outline and define the What? and the Why? but equally to illustrate the How? as well. This is work I do with organisations regularly - and it's no easy science/art/program. It's a holistic creation, bourne out of months of interrogating what works, what fails, and going deeply inside the minds, perceptions and psychology of work. Jacob offers us a clear and insightful view to what great can look like, and what sort of exponential impact it can have on workplace engagement, satisfaction and personal commitment.
