UNEXPECTED STORIES
If you like Edward Gorey this volume is essential. The chronological order of these stories is also a plus for what originally appeared in small format individual books that were hard to find at the time of publication and almost impossible today. This book is amazingly affordable and the four volumes of Amphigorey with its collected works show a real insight into Gorey's growth as a writer and artist. These compilations should never go out of print.

The edition is a little smaller than the original size, a little harder on my aging eyes.
I love Edward Gorey's creepy and surreal narratives. I love his hand drawn illustrations. The only thing I didn't like is the edition's reduction in size.

In Gorey Heaven!
What a wonderful compilation of the works of this unusual and extremely gifted artist! While Charles Addams is a household name, that of Edward Gorey still brings looks of puzzlement whenever it comes up in conversation. I personally feel he has never received the acclaim justly due him, but then again, his works certainly will not be to everyone's taste. At times his stories are beyond comprehension, but perhaps that was his intention--to leave us guessing or use our own imagination to fill in the gaps. Be that as it may, the illustrations are worth the price of the book alone. If you love Edward Gorey and would rather have some of his works together in one volume, do yourself a favor and purchase this book. But be prepared to enter his personal weird and at times incomprehensible world.

Naked Molerats with moth wings decorate the cover.
Full of weird alphabets. Gorey enjoyed himself making these. I enjoyed the zoo alphabet best.'The Boggerslosh conceals itselfIn back of bottles on a shelf'.

Amphigorey Also
I have loved Edward Gorey since I was very young, and I'm so happy to see that his books are still being published. I have many of his small books, and four of his Amphigorey large books. This latest edition to my collection is as wonderful as all the others. Each small work of art is a masterpiece, and the witty prose seldom fails to bring a dark chuckle. He may be gone now from this world, but he lives in our imaginations ... long live Edward Gorey!
