Great reel
Great reel. Good quality reel.

Amazing right out of the box
Borrowed a buddy's rig with this reel on it and I was so impressed that I bought my own. After a week of heavy fishing and a few musky on the end of my line, this is by far the best reel I have ever used.

Great reel, bad photos.
I ordered a regular speed retrieve and the photo shows it with a power handle. If I would have checked Shimanos website directly, I would have known better; only the high speed 300s and 400s come with the handle. Not a big deal as I just swapped handles with my high speed 300 but it would be nice if the photos actually showed the true product I was buying.

Smooth casting
The shimano tranx 400 reel is very smooth when casting. Be sure to use 65 # braid line. 65# diameter does not bind up . I use 25# top shot fluro .

Wrong handle
I would give it 5 but the picture wasn't what was sent. The handle was different from the picture I selected to purchase. I had to buy the handle I wanted from the beginning.

Be careful about the handle
These are great reels, everything you've read about them is true except: Sometimes the 400s don't come with the pictured power handle and you'll have to spend another $40 to buy one. 200s and 300s don't come with the power handle, 400s do about half the time, 500s always do. Ask before you click checkout. I love the reel after swapping the handle.

Bait & Switch
Despite the numerous photos showing this reel with a power handle this item does not come with the power handle.The reel itself seems fine, but don’t expect to receive what’s pictured.

Not saltwater proof.
A very smooth and strong reel. The gears stripped after two years. Had to get the bearings replaced. Not a good saltwater reel. Lexa tws a much better choice.
