Another top Rush deluxe box, tho not as good as it could have been.
Received the much anticipated huge MP40 Deluxe Box a few days ago. I'm somewhat of a fan, have pretty much everything I can grab (apart from the large bobbleheads! :-) ), seen every (UK) tour since 1979 etc, often on multiple occasions..... so paying for yet another reissue deluxe box doesn't worry me, but this is massively overpriced! They have their own shelf, next to the Zep ones.Yes, the music is superb of course, the concert especially. New vinyl sounds really excellent, together with the Blu-ray audio etc. The 2 double live LPs are superbly packaged in nice gatefold sleeves, are heavy, flat, have poly lined inner sleeves and sound great. Memories of the Cardiff show! The versions of Freewill & La Villa Strangiato were especially great on this tour. No point discussing the music here further tho. The box is twice as thick as the previous boxes too, probably just to house the toy car!I personally like all the memorabilia in box sets, but this one could have been so much better - and should have been for nigh on £300 (tho I pre-ordered at £217). My Barchetta was slightly damaged too, a windshield hanging off and damaged mirror. However, all my LP covers were as they should be, no damage to the box etc, so not returning it, in case I'm worse off - or it goes out of stock. I won't ever be selling it, so I'm OK with that.Strangely, the car is nothing like the one initially advertised on Rush Backstage months ago. Windshields are flat to the bonnet (they don't move so don't try!) and no MP40 number plate. However, it looks exactly the same as the ones featured in many recent unboxing videos online, including the Backstage Limited Edition. It's not as good as the AFTK or 2112 boxes for example - and those were half the price of this. And a metal Geddy Lee pick???? He doesn't use one! They should have included a model 4002 double neck instead - or how about the pair????On that note, I knew this edition would not include the six Neil Peart lyric sheets, they were only available in the Backstage pre-order edition. I wasn't about to pay $300, plus a massive postage cost, a long wait and the added risk of damage coming from Canada - and risk of customs charges too - I've had that a few times from there. However, I'm sure they described the deluxe box would include one random lyric sheet - but no - no mention of this now, even at Rush.com (the deluxe doesn't even show up now). I understand there's a random sheet in the vinyl only box. You can always print hi-res copies from that popular Rush site you'll no doubt know about, if you're that bothered.Blu-ray - OK, we all want the new surround mixes, tho I do have the previous Blu-ray deluxe pack - now massively overpriced too. But why didn't "they" include much, much more on the the disc. Some video footage at least (remastered/extended version of the Exit Stage Left & Making Of videos at the very least), not the 3 videos we've seen countless times and a daft cartoon! And how about a hi-res download in flac? I'd also have personally preferred the Blu-ray and 3CDs in separate covers, as per previous Rush boxes, instead of being at the back of the hard back book. So I'll have to buy the CD pack now too for completion - as per the Hemispheres box.If you're a big fan, then you should definitely get the big box before it goes to silly, silly prices - tho looks like it already is doing? Star removed for price and lack of content. Maybe that should be two off!
