Eye for an Eye [Blu-ray]

The Unthinkable Happens. Karen is on the phone with her daughter Julie who is at home decorating the house for her small sister's birthday party when the doorbell rings. Julie tells her mother she is going to answer the door. A man pushes his way into the house, thrusts Julie to the floor, and violently attacks her. Karen can hear Julie scream and calling for help. Karen is helpless and stuck on the highway in a traffic jam. The phone is not disconnected so she cannot call the police. Karen, played by Sally Field, runs from car to car begging for someone to call the police. Most ignore her, until finally one woman calls the police. When Karen finally gets home, she learns that her beloved 17-year old daughter is dead.Months later, Det. Sgt. Denillo, played by Joe Mantagna, has a suspect, and DNA evidence to prove it. The Prosecutor tells Karen and her husband, Mack, played by Ed Harris, that it's an open and shut case. However, when the case is brought before the judge, the defendant, played by Kiefer Sutherland, gets off on a technicality. It's incredible that the Judge who knows that the evidence clearly shows that the creep before him killed young Julie, yet he won't allow the evidence to stand. And the defense attorney defends her client knowing full well that he killed a beautiful young girl with her whole life ahead of her. These two, Judge and defense attorney, are educated people, and yet they let a rapist- murderer get away with such a heinous crime. This film points out that the Justice System needs revamping.Karen joins a grieving-support group, and learns that some members are taking the law into their own hands and killing those who killed their loved ones. The Killer who killed Julie has killed yet another woman. And there is no proof against him. What Karen does to stop the rapist-murderer is incredible and necessary.Sally Field, a great actor, is outstanding as Karen. Ms. Field is always excellent in every part she plays. Ed Harris as Mack Karen's husband is also outstanding. Joe Mantagna as Det. Sgt. Denillo is excellent. Kiefer Sutherland, a fine actor, is sleazy and convincing as a brutal rapist-murderer.

I usually keep to myself when there is a bad movie. I wouldn't say this was bad, but I didn't understand the emotional aspects of either Fields or Harris's characters...The day after there daughter was murdered, there was nothing about Harris' or Fields' emotions that would tell me there daughter was just murdered (I happen to think these two are fantastic actors, too). If you've ever been around parents or any type of human that have these disastrous things happen to them, well they can be numb for years or a lifetime. There were often laughs and almost a sense of trying to simply move on from this. Don't get me wrong, that is fine to do, but it takes huge amounts of time, grief, and mourning. There was hardly any mourning at all from each of the parents. Fields was rightly wanting to gain justice, but she evoked someone that had gotten someone stolen from her, like a purse full of money or a car. Here, both actors are back at work within a week...The funeral didn't make any sense, either. There was too much comedy in such a heinous crime. This is not the actors fault but the directors. Again, I may be off, but I couldn't get through this one based on those (to me, huge) details. Also, why couldn't the police gain more evidence in the antagonist's last crime...I mean, his fingerprints were probably all over her...And the used condom (which they had to have found) had to have his DNA there. It seemed the movie was doing the whole "police without proof" theme a bit too much, without providing the necessary emotional and real life aspects of having a daughter raped and murdered.

One of the best thrillers I have seen in awhile. Sally Fields executes an Oscar worthy performance as the grief stricken mom to a teenage girl who is raped and murdered in a home invasion by a seedy delivery man. Kiefer Sutherland plays an exceptionally despicable character who without much dialogue but plenty of smirky, bad boy looks, paints the picture of a truly evil, no feeling psycho. We are all rooting for Sally to take him out when the justice system lets him walk on the murder due to a technicality. At a grief group she is befriended by men who can arrange for her to get a weapon and take justice into her own hands. It's a nail bitter to the end and you will want to jump through the screen and give her a hand to make it happen.

Very good movie, great cast and acting, One thing that really hit home with me is that anytime a person has an uncomfortable feeling about a situation or another person, remove yourself from the area, no matter how petty or silly it might seem at the moment. We have that sense for a reason; trust it.

The plot was well thought out, the acting was good, Sutherland was great in his part as the antagonist and Sally Field was good at the beginning but as the movie dragged on she no longer seemed believable. The narrative could have been better written, and the movie was very predictable. It is based on what a lot of people would like to do and think about when a loved one suffers a horrible death at the hands of some psyco.

Eye for an Eye is a superb thriller expertly directed by the great John Schlesinger who did the equally great Marathon Man and Pacific Heights. It has a stellar cast who all give excellent performances especially from the four leads Sally Field, Kiefer Sutherland, Ed Harris and Joe Mantegna. It's intense, suspenseful, intriguing and brutal. It has a ridiculous 8% on Rotten Tomatoes. DO NOT go by that insanely low score. Eye for an Eye is a very well made film that will keep you glued to your seat!

Kiefer Sutherland turns in a great performance as a particularly unpleasant rapist-killer, but this is the only decent thing about this cynical manipulative little movie.the thing that rankles with me most is the ridiculous scenes which exist only to drive the plot forward.A n example of this is when the investigatiing calls the Sally Field character in to the police station to inform her of a second murder which he is attributing to Fields' daughters killer..Why on earth would he do that?the scene just exists so that Fields character can be informeits total nonsense.e killers continuing rampage and ,its total nonsense.

CONTAINS SPOILERS Karen (Sally Fields) lives every parents nightmare when her seventeen year old daughter is raped and murdered. Karen hears the whole thing over the phone but is powerless to help. She becomes obsessed with the killer and makes up her mind to ensure that justice is done. When they find the murderer it seems that the case against him is watertight however the police mess up and are tied with red tape and Karen becomes frustrated and bitter. She soon discovers she isn't the only one who has been let down by the justice system. Kieffer Sutherland is genuinely creepy as the scumbag killer, there is one scene where he is drumming and the sense of pent-up sexual aggression really comes across. It is impossible to watch this movie without hoping that Karen gets justice for her daughter.

Not an easy DVD to find anywhere else. Great film.
