The Way Home: A Celebration of Sea Islands Food and Family with over 100 Recipes

I have been waiting since February. So I quickly ordered Delicious Miss Brown's cookbook two weeks ago --and have already bought 2 more for ladies in my book club who love to cook, and love a good story. I have made two of the recipes, "Not Your Mama's Cornish Hens" and the "Hashbrown Casserole" which I will be making again during the Thanksgiving holiday with my family in Louisiana. That is what has always been so appealing about Miss Brown's cooking 'putting in a little of this and a little of that, because good eating is all about taste. Her Red Rice and Sweet Potato Pone (Gur-rl! you make pone!) remind me so much of dishes I grew up on in Central Louisiana, but never had a recipe for. I know that there is some connection between Geechees from South Carolina and some of the Black Creoles in Louisiana. I love that she was able to define and articulate "fixing' food" as I have never heard. That says so much! All of the pictures in the book were beautiful and appreciated. This IS NOT a book for the kitchen. I put it in the bookcase with all of my special book club books. When I need a recipe, I make a copy on my phone (just for my use--not to be shared). I love this cookbook! It has some wonderful recipes. The stories are lovely. Miss Brown is an awesome chef. I watch her shows when I can. The photos are beautiful. A little heavy on deserts and sweets, but otherwise great!!

I love cookbooks. I know I can look up almost any recipe online, and I do, but it’s just not the same. The story behind the recipe and the cook is why I buy hardback. This is my favorite. Kardea is so genuine in her love of family and tradition. I’m a southern girl and it’s refreshing to see our food so well represented. I feel her in every page. The recipes are straight forward, easy to follow and delicious.

I am picky about cookbooks and I have high standards for cooking at home. Kardea Brown's cookbook did not disappoint and in fact, her recipes turned out so well, mac and cheese and okra were a hit at my Thanksgiving table. Her recipes are not complicated, well explained, and flavorful. I love how I can find the ingredients from a regular grocery store and everything is seasoned to perfection. I also enjoyed reading about her community, family, and personal journey with cooking in the book. This is a must-have for soul-food lovers like me. Please stop debating and go get Kardea's book! I hope she continues to write more cookbooks.

Her cooking show on Food Network is one of my favorites! She films in one of my favorite loved spots, Edisto, SC. The book has some nice history personal included and beautiful pictures!

Best cookbook in years! Kardea is so genuine and down to earth. Nothing pretentious here, just good old home recipes that anyone would love. Finally a cookbook that I would actually love to make all of the recipes! I love how generous Kardea is in sharing her culture and heritage with us all.

I usually write reviews on music CDs, but I decided to take a chance and review this excellent cookbook. My husband and I have been big fans of her popular cooking show on the Food Network for several years now. We were very excited to hear that she had written a cookbook, which I ordered right away. It’s great to see the meals she prepared from the TV show in this cookbook. In fact, my husband and I bought the six individual seasonings to make her house seasoning, which we can’t wait to use. I highly recommend buying her cookbook, you certainly won’t be disappointed!

Love this book, have so been looking forward to its release (I pre- ordered) and it is as fab as I expected. Some great recipes, some I recognise from her TV show. Definitely recommend 👍
