This seems to be a good unit, though the instructions leave something to be desired. Both parts require a nine volt battery. (2x9v) (Not a biggie, but also not in documentation.) The tone generator looks like it has two leds, a telephone butt connector, two alligator clips and what looks like an rca jack. (It isn’t an rca jack) what looks like an rca jack is actually the tone generator function switch. (This is not mentioned in the quick start guide.) Once you have batteries and the switch turned to tone, it works well. Even with the volume off, the led flashed to show the tone. Overall works well, but assumes you are comfortable with similar models.

I had an open neutral in my camper and this was perfect for finding it. I had tried several other things over the coruse of 2 weeks that didn't work, but this helped me find the problem in less than 5 minutes. Good price (especially for something you don't use very often) and it was much less expensive than the other brands you can find at Lowes or Home Depot

Works great! Helped me trace back doorbell wires that were disconnected from a previous owner that buried the wires behind drywall. Feels well made was a little hard fitting the 9v battery into the receiver wand . No instructions came with it but it’s pretty straight forward for connecting the transmitter to the wires you’re trying to trace.

Don't buy! terrible product. We have ordered it twice and could only be used once and then it does not work. Amazon return window is closed so we are stuck with a broken product.

I am color blind and needed to trace some wires and this tool Tracy Ellis Ross made it extremely easy to trace wiring from point A to point B. Simply install purchase and install two 9 volt batteries clip the black wire to a ground and the red wire to the stripped end of a bear electrical wire you are tracing and set the switch to tone then push the button on the chasing one and the closer you get to the electrical wire you are tracing the louder the tone will sound. Of course it has multiple functions including CAT5 ethernet tracing capabilities

I was looking for a cable in the wall for about two months unable to find. I received wire Tracer and ten min. letter I had found it and replace it. Best Purchase!

This was very low cost and I didn't expect much. The thing basically seems to work. But it arrived with no instructions, and there are no instructions in the Amazon listing. There are two switches with cryptically labeled positions, assorted terminals, you need instructions. Also the battery door rather than use a screw uses a bolt with a captive nut except it's not captive so it either came without one or I lost it when I first installed the battery, that was not included. Even for a low-cost item, this thing does not live up to expectations.
