Can these be cut to be tight? Im wanting to hold a metal mesh panel on a gate.

You can pull them tight, and cut off the excess. I cut almost every one I ever use to length. Who wants the extra tail of nylon hanging out to take away from the items being tied together.

Are they compostable?

Items can not be both weather and UV resistant as well as compostable. if it were able to compost it would require it to breakdown, making it useless for long time applications.

How thick are they? I need to know if they will fit through the cable tie mounts I have on hand.

It depends on the strength of them. The 200-pound ones are going to be much thicker and wider than an 18-pound tie.
