I have used these ballon type wire guards on my gutters, which tend to get blocked with pine needles, they work very well, however they are a bit expensive for what they are though.

Arrived the next day without using prime. Fitted in my old gutters perfectly. I suppose I could have got them cheaper if we had trekked round the builders merchants. They are fine for what I want.

They work reasonably well. Easy to install with a certain amount of flexibility regarding sizing by just bending the wire tags to fit snugly. Of course they don’t stop gutters getting blocked but they make it easier to unblock them.

OK, so this is the product you need if your down-pipes (the vertical bits of your gutter) tend to block, or if your grids/rainwater drains block with moss and leaves. The product is made of a galvanized metal (I guess it's steel and the galvanizing is the use of zinc that helps prevent corrosion). I guess we can expect 3-5 years lifespan at least, but how much beyond that will depend on the thickness of the galvanizing. The product is about the size of a clenched fist, with four prongs sticking out. The prongs and the wire basket nature of the product mean it's really easy to squeeze the prongs into the down-pipe from above (you need to be up a ladder, looking into the gutter at the point the down-pipe joins it. You might just have to maneuver around any overhanging roof tiles, but again, the product is flexible with a good squeeze and I found it was pretty easy overall.It fits both round and square drainpipes easily, and once all 4 prongs are in the pipe, just give a good push down and it slides into the pipe, leaving just the top of the balloon shape visible. I fitted then two weeks ago, and got up the ladder to look today - leaves were stopped around the balloon and s hadn't gone down the pipe to block my drain. Of course the downside is that, unless you use a gutter brush as well, then eventually the area around the balloon will need cleaning out or rainwater will start to pour over - but that's so much easier than unblocking a stuck down-pipe and drain.I think these products are great - especially if you use a gutter brush, or gutter hedgehog too (Amazon also sell them in black or white).
