So far,so good...
Like all the one-year reviewers my old model, which was fire engine red, simply quit working one day. When I looked for replacement I gasped when I saw price tag of $128.95 and said "no way!". Then this new model popped up, and at a deal price for basically half off. So I decided to buy it, but I added the protection plan because, quite frankly, I do not trust the quality any longer. So far I have used it about half a dozen times, and it is doing well. I have not used the marinating container which, I noticed, does not have an insert that keeps the meat off the bottom and thus marinades on both sides. So I will use one from another container. The marinating container is of the same thickness as the square Freshsaver containers that never keep their suction intact. If it dies on me, I will update this review accordingly. I have never had to invoke an amazon.com warranty YET, but the few extra dollars provide peace of mind. I like that I don't have to stay put and keep the button depressed, but it didn't shut off last night and I had to remove it manually. I have had a Foodsaver ever since it first came out and love its performance. It makes a huge difference in less wasted food.

UPDATED 02.12.24 - Original Review 12.22 - Stopped working after less than 20 uses
DO NOT RUIN OUR PLANET WITH THIS GARBAGE!!! - 02.12.24 - UPDATED REVIEW - Back again, reviewing the replacement that was sent to me via FoodSaver. Good news, they replaced my unit after it failed after less than 20 uses. Bad news, the new unit lasted 14 months this time; a total of about 100 uses. I mean, in comparison I suppose that's progress <insert eyeroll here> but I still cant get over the sheer amount of waste and environmental impact on the percentage of failure this thing has. If every single person that has a failed unit got a replacement (I guess good) think of the production, shipment, and landfill cost all of those unit tolled on our planet. I (we) had been better off just using Ziplock's to begin with. TBH, getting nice quality Ziplock's and rolling out the air would equate to about 90% the same affect of this device. As my last review stated, the air never completely stayed out. Regardless, I'll be attempting yet another replacement because I really do and did invest in this product quite a bit. I did like it and now my entire food saving setup is geared towards it. I even wash the bags (save the planet yah) which has left me with nearly 600 brand new bags in their boxes still. I really don't want to land fill those. Oh, should you want to try to get serviced by these folk, i suggest the same email I used last year to get my replacement. [email protected] I posted the below review on Amazon and never heard from them. I even used the customer service link they have via Amazon, still no reply. Went to their site and it took less than a week to get an email saying they were shipping a new one. Good luck. It was mostly great, until it was just dead. Lights come on and all appears normal but nothing happens when you press either button. I've used it less that 20 times and nothing more than chips or such. Also, the bags do eventually leak air in as nothing ever stayed super tightly sealed as it is at first seal; objects can easily move around in the bag after about 2 weeks, indicating air space in the bag. My review to actual Food Saver website, which got a reply and a new unit fyi: Loved it, for the 20 times it worked I bought this 3 months ago and so bummed I did. I really liked it at first, and still like the idea of it. I spent several hundred $$$ switching my entire food storage system over to this handheld. I bought multiple containers and bags and every accessory from wine stopper to vegetable crisper in an attempt to help reduce our carbon footprint. Unfortunately, my "investment" is both bad for the environment AND my psyche in that the device does nothing but light up now and is thus destined for the landfill; making me feel like an idiot for making the switch. Now, not only will the device and the container it came in end up in the landfill, I have little choice but to request a replacement or send all of my purchased accessories to the landfill as well. I'm so disappointed. I read the reviews on Amazon and just ignored that 8% of them complained of the exact same issue in the same timeframe; I just assumed it'd "get lucky" with a working one. So disappointing.

Charge for 24 hours before first use
The manual only says that the unit is fully charged when the light stops flashing. Maybe so, but if that is all you do for the first charge the unit will fail after only a few uses. In an FAQ forum the maker says that you should get 60 uses after a 24 hour charge, but nowhere in the manual is that stated. I almost returned mine, as it would only serve about 2 bags before failing. After a 24 hour initial charge it is working great. Maybe this explains all the negative reviews and complaints about battery failure. Foodsaver-- clarify your manual!

Disappointing battery life
Very disappointing. Not sure how old the unit I reviewed actually is, but the battery has failed after only a few months and no longer holds a charge. When it worked, it worked well, but now I am lucky if I can get a single bag vacuumed before it runs out of juice. I would not buy this again.

Very Handy But Will Need Replaced Annually If Extensively Used.
Appreciate easy of sealing containers and bags. If this is your first time using resealable bags, make sure you read the instructions thoroughly. I missed the the part that tells you certain foods essentially turn the bags into a 1 time use. The vacuum itself works very well. However, as many have stated, the pump does not last much past the manufactures warranty if used on a daily basis. If you do not want to be disappointed, make sure to purchase an extended warranty if offered. BTW - I do not consider this "flaw" a manufacturer problem/defect. Users must realize they are working with a small motor that will only last for so long. The 4 Star review is based merely on inability to easily confirm if the bags are completely sealed when closed. I have had several occasions where I initially had a good vacuum seal, but when I retrieved my food later, the vacuum had been lost.

Battery died after 6 months
So this is a very clever system with some pluses and minuses. First, the marinator container never really worked. Not sure what it was supposed to do or if I was doing something wrong, but never did. Second, the bags are great. They did a terrific job of maintaining particularly cheese. Worked great. If the vacuum didn't last long, it was because I wasn't careful enough sealing the tab. But today, the battery died and it's now useless. This is 6 months old. No clue why. Been charging for two days. It does not live in the charger all the time, so maybe that is required but it doesn't say it has to. I like to charge things and then use the stored up energy instead of having 100,000 wall warts running 24/7. Maybe this needs constant charging. But it's now dead. So it doesn't matter if the bags are great. I need to buy another one or throw all of it away, which accounts for the two star rating. UPDATE: I got in touch with their warranty department via email. It was a quick, polite process. A replacement is on the way. The good news is they honor their warranty, something I have found some companies finding excuses not to honor. Not Food Saver. No fuss, no muss. Honorable.

Money saver
I shop at Cosco for my meats, fish, and chicken. Then I break the packages down to serving sizes then vacuum seal them with the vacuum sealer and put them in the freezer. I also use the marinated which is very handy and easy to clean. The vacuum bags can be reused as long as they are clean and dry.

I've flirted with food vacuum sealers for a long time.
I even bought one...and never got around to doing more than getting it out of the box. Finally I took it out and was determined to use it...but I couldn't get it to seal AND I didn't like having to evacuate my counter to have enough room AND I disliked being tethered to the power cord. Bottom line: I donated it to a charity resale shop. BUT that experience showed me the features that just might work for me, so I kept browsing/rejecting. Then I found this version: compact, rechargeable, bags already made for me -- perfect for someone who has no plans to freeze a bushel of...anything...but who wants to stretch the life of hard cheeses, cabbages, bell peppers, blackberries...anything that I would be cooking/eating over the course of a week IF it wasn't spoiled by then. It's perfect! An extra package of quart and gallon bags to use while full ones are in the fridge or freezer and I'm set. Now I smile every time I see a bell pepper or head of cabbage or chunk of cheese in the fridge because I know it is and will be fresh whenever I get to it.
