The 100 series rotary vane hand pumps are perfect for transferring fuel from barrels, totes, and tanks. The FR112CL model is the total solution as it includes the pump, a discharge hose, spout, and liter counter.

Well made, works well, lockable. Feels like a quality product.

Pump Positioning
This Fill-Rite rotary hand pump appears to be a well-constructed device but it is not what I expected – which is my fault for not properly reading product information. I anticipated being able to empty what is basically an open tank, but now I realise it is designed to discharge from oil drums. No doubt it is fine at what it is intended for – pump casing, cover, flanges, inlet and outlet threads all seem robust, and it can be assumed the rotor, shaft etc. are equally sound.I was taken aback by the detailed exploded drawing of the pump showing everything down to last nut and bolt, but in reality the Fill-Rite pump arrives fully assembled apart from fitting suction pipe, discharge hose, filler nozzle and wooden handle. A small roll of Teflon tape is provided for leak-proof connections, but any good PTFE tape will do. I can double up on tape to ensure water-tightness as I was surprised that Fill-Rite state the pump is NOT for water – but I am ignoring this advice. Why not use for water?I intend to use the pump for occasional emptying of my garden fish-pond, and certainly I cannot envisage why I would need reverse flow – and in any case I cannot work out how to achieve this – insufficient information on accompanying leaflet? The puzzling operation for me to resolve is how to construct a timber cradle that can sit diagonally across a corner of the pond to allow the inlet pipe into the water, and at the same time to hold the pump firm whilst turning the handle – with discharge into an adjacent drain inspection chamber. This does not qualify me as a reviewer, but the Fill-Rite rotary hand pump must be worth at least a 4-star rating – and I’m going to get an electric pump with both inlet and outlet hoses.

Does the job perfectly
I'm not an engineer or expert in fuel pumps or hoses, so please look at the other reviews, including those from the US. (this is an american pump). I have personally been using this to move diesel to a small boat. When you get this the main body is assembled, with a few pieces to add before use. None of this is technical, and the instructions are clear. You get sealant tape as well to make everything completely tight. The main advantage of this product (as well as the excellent build quality) is that it has a numerical meter so you know exactly how much you've transferred, to the nearest litre anyway. Being purely manual it also has a much lower chance of sparking.Cranking is very easy and smooth. It's initially set up to stop reverse flow, but this can be changed if needed (I've not done this myself but it seems easy enough). The high price of this item cannot really be justified based on it's features; perhaps this is due to import costs, or conforming to US standards and specs. If you absolutely need a metered rotary handpump then this is definitely a great one that is going to last, but you might be able to get something nearly as good for a lot less. As always, shop around.

Solid, and works well...
This is a nicely made product, built the way things used to be, and i mean that as a compliment. Huge, solid cast main body, threaded so it can be screwed into a large barrel. Comes with a solid, extendable tube which screws into the body and extends into the barrel. A flexible ‘petrol pump’ style hose and nozzle is also supplied, around 2.5m long. There is a litre batch counter which can be reset, and a total litres which cannot. It will pump 5 litres in a matter of seconds, maybe 10 handle turns, so its very fast too. I was less impressed with the plastic housing of the litre counters, which is also a little exposed above the top of the substantial main body; i could see this being damaged quite easily. As a note of caution; the pump holds quite a lot of fuel when removed from the barrel, and clearing it isn’t so simple, so unless transferring to a new barrel immediately, i’d have concerns about that.

Rotary fuel pump
I've no idea why Amazon Vine offered me this. But it's a big, red, shiny piece of techno-metal, and I couldn't resist. I told myself at the time that perhaps I could use it, in the short term, to pump fuel from those little plastic fuel tanks into our petrol lawn mower. But it's not really designed for such light use. And I half-imagined that, with my vague wishes/fantasies to get 'off-grid', this might at some unknown future point be useful, in a kind of mad-max post apocalyptic survivalist scenario. So, unlike some of the other reviewers here, who know their fuel pumps, and have farms where such things are useful, I'm not the best placed to review this item, and perhaps should've exercised more restraint and not ordered it. On the other hand, I love tech like this, and have enjoyed poring over the detailed manual, and trying to think of ways that I might actually be able to use the thing. Certainly, to my untutored eye, it looks and feels terrifically solid and well made. I also like the retro hand-powered aspect of the design.Another reviewer alludes to how this, proudly made in the U.S. of A, is therefore incompatible with most U.K. standards. Sounds like a potential problem. But as I still don't quite know if/how I can actually use it, that's a bit academic for me, at present. Unless I discover oil in ourr back garden, and start refining my own barrels of petrol, I'm not sure what I'll do with this!?
