Great spade
Well made, well balanced, quality tool at a fine price. Not one of those cheap commodity shovels at Lowes or Home Depot, but a tool designed with for the serious gardener.

rugged
Enjoy using it the little I have, feels solid when working with it and cuts through the dirt easy. Nice shovel.

Does what I want.
Bought this to dig out holes to install paver stones in my yard. Works well. I was familiar with Union Fork and Hoe befores the Ames company bought them out and their Razorback line was the top of the crop. This is no Razorback, but for casual use it is fine. The business end of mine appears to be made in USA, (see picture) no evidence of being made in India as another reviewer stated. .Label does say assembled in USA from domestic and foreign materials. Overall, I am pleased.

Sturdy but not sharp.
Decent product but not sharp enough. Seems sturdy but can barely cut through shallow roots.

Great buy.
Wow! Bang for your buck. This tool if very affordable and I’ve been edging beds very well with it. You will not be disappointed.

It's crooked!
I purchased this same shovel sometime in the 90s, and loved it. Finally the wooden handle rotted out and, after searching the stores, I felt lucky to find it on Amazon. However, the "D" handle is not parallel to the blade, so when trying to edge with it, I have to make a conscious effort to twist the tool slightly so that my lines will be straight. I purchased it again from another vendor (also on Amazon), and it has the same problem. I will try to unscrew the handle and line it up properly, but feel the screw holes will be too close together and weaken the handle. Perhaps I will try and contact the manufacturer. Not really certain what to do. I am a professional gardener, and really need this tool!

Sucks
Not a real high quality product. Seems like a factory second. I am familiar with Ames tools, and they are well priced and hold up well compared to other budget priced brands that have not - true temper, ace hardware. I trust Ames, and I ordered this one because I couldn't find a flathead ames spade at the time. I now see one is available, and I would recommend that to anybody looking at buying this one. What I didn't like:There's a coating on the spade that is very inconsistent and poorly applied. I'm not sure what it is; I assume its to protect and extend the life of the spade. It looks weird, and like I said, it's not applied well. Some spots are bare, some are thickly covered, etc.Where the handle connects to the spade seems weak. It is not as solid as the Ames products. It has one screw going through the handle and metal part. It didn't look or feel too sturdy, and would creak when I manipulated it.This tool seems like a factory second piece of junk. I also suspect somebody used this and then returned it. It has marks and scratches, and just seems more worn than what I expected. No stickers or anything in the product. Handle wrapped in saran wrap.I would recommend trying that highly rated Fiskars one that looks pretty bulletproof, or getting an Ames. I think I'm gonna try the all steel fiskars.I made a bad purchase and I don't want you to make the same mistake I did.

Right Size
I'm not sure why you can't find a tool this shape at the Walmart or Home Depot. It seem expensive compared to their offerings, but this is the one to get. It is balanced, the right size and durable enough.
