If you love having blue hands
Not only is this book applicable for learning the basics of shibori dyeing, it is useful for the more experienced artists for advanced techniques and inspiration! There is enough history to make it interesting but not overwhelmingly filled with "too much" information...in other words, you can get straight to the processes if you want. The photos of finished pieces and the simple drawings make it easy to mimic the results fairly closely...I was happy with the way my own dyeing projects turned out. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn this art, and also to anyone who wants to be inspired to advance their technical skills and creative endeavors. It is a good basic book to have on your bookshelf if you want to create your own unique fabrics.

Wonderful book!
Wonderful book! The instructions are clearly written and include good diagrams and drawings to help illustrate the various folding and sewing techniques used to achieve the various Shibori effects. This book is also filled with beautiful color photo's. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of this ancient Japanese art.

Beautiful pictures, instructions & inspiration
I tried to pick out a couple books on shibori from the many I saw online. I'm very pleased with my choices including this one. A beautiful art form with a long history. I never liked the flashy tie dye of the 70's but shibori shows what tie dye, and sewn or blocked resist fabric art should be. I'm a potter and glass artist. I'm excited by this new (to me) medium.

This book is so beautiful. I ordered it so I could get ideas and see pictures of various tye-dying. The Japanese textile are of Shibori is just unbelievable. Although I'm no master, I enjoyed every page and picture!

A well detailed, all encompassing overview of contemporary and traditional shibori
I have read several books on shibori and keep on coming back to this one as my main reference point. The stitching and clamping illustrations are clear and easy to follow - as long as you have the patience for the stitching. The traditional techniques are well set out but are complemented by examples of contemporary work.
