The Best Thangka Coloring Book Out There, By Far
In the interests of full disclosure, I was a student of Tashi before he moved to California. This is by far the best thangka coloring book out there. I own all of them, including the two by Robert Beer, the Green Tara one that was made years ago, and a few you can only get in India and Nepal, and most of them are pretty terrible. Either the drawings are simply bad or too complex for someone to actually color without, I don't know, scanning it into a computer and blowing it up to a much larger scale. Almost all of Tashi's are suitably complex but also large enough that you can color with an ordinary crayon or colored pencil without your writing implement being too start for fine details.Tashi also includes explanatory text on each page. There isn't a lot of it, which is good. The non-coloring thangka art books tend to go overboard and get deep into lineages and biographies without explaining the basic symbols. I've been an amateur thankga painter for 5 years and I still get stumped about some things because the explanations are so technical and poorly-written. This book has just the right amount. He also includes the graphs for traditional measurements, which are not included in most thangka books available in the West, or are extremely rare and expensive (Brill publishes one, but the main one people use is all in Tibetan and published in Nepal). There's tremendous value for what you're getting here. I can't recommend this book enough.

Tashi Dhargyal's book is the Real Deal of Tibetan Buddhist coloring art.
There are a lot of coloring books out there labelled "Tibetan Buddhist" or "Buddhist" that have almost nothing to do with the actual iconography of Buddhist art. Tashi Dhargyal's book on the other hand is the Real Deal. Trained in Tibetan thangka painting in Dharamsala and working as artist-in-residence at a South Indian monastery before coming to the United States to continue his art, Tashi has provided 50 illustrations for coloring. Auspicious symbols, offerings, landscapes, Bodhisattvas and their symbols, teachers, the Buddha's arch of symbols, and finally, drawings of the Buddha Shakyamuni and the Bodhisattva Green Tara that show the grid of proportions that underlie the drawing of the figure. Most of the drawings have a paragraph of text explaining them.Almost any of these are suitable for displaying on a Tibetan Buddhist altar, colored or not. There are a range of simple to complex drawings to work with, or just to admire the artistry of the brush that created them. The pages are large and double-sided. In most cases (but not all) the opposite side from the drawing is the text explaining the next drawing, so you will not be ruining another page of drawing if you color too hard or your pens bleed. The page are not perforated. If you find these drawings interesting, check out the coloring books by Robert Beer. His drawings are way more complex though. Exquisite!
I love this colouring book, although I've not coloured in it yet. When I found out Tashi was releasing this, I pre-ordered it immediately. I have had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Tashi and seeing the massive 20 x 15 feet tall thanbochi (from which images in the colouring book are derived) that he is currently working on in Sebastopol, CA. He has been working on it for about 2 or 3 years now. The entire piece is breathtaking and massive! Every part of the thanbochi is done to ancient, traditional specifications. Every detail of the thanbochi is pleasing and rich with colour. He mixes his own paints, including the pure gold paint. Tashi himself is a wonderful gentleman, soft spoken, generous, and very kind. He has many other pieces of his art and prints for sale in the gallery and every one of them is exquisite.I highly recommend this colouring book and if you are ever in the area of Sebastopol, CA, you should go to his gallery studio, Tibetan Gallery & Studio, and see the thanbochi.Thank you Tashi for your wonderful gift of art!

Simply Amazing! Authentic Tibetan Master created this!
LOVE this authentic book of meditation and Tibetan symbols!! This book is unique because it has been created by a TIBETAN Master of Thangka painting. As you color, the many blessings of these images created by Tashi Dhargyal can be felt, in my humble opinion. I've enjoyed the relaxation, and the meditation of coloring these auspicious symbols. The descriptions are equally wonderful. This is more of an experience than just coloring!!! I'm ordering for my friends as gifts.

a collection of masterpieces being shared for all of us to embrace and interact with.
I was honored to be able to visit his Tibetan Gallery where he is in process of birthing one of the largest Thangka out side of Tibet. It is amazing to be able to witness the progress over the last few years as he skillfully applies all of his knowledge to this masterpiece in process. Coloring for Meditation is a beautiful extension of his artistic mastery along with educational narratives. The book even includes samples of the geometry that is utilized in the development of the Thangka and Buddha and invites you to try your own hand at this.Highly recommend to anyone who wants to explore the wonderful world of sacred art, color and wonderment.

Not only very beautiful but also informative!
Exquisite line drawings by a Tibetan master painter. Tashi Dhargyal shares stories and explanations of the images and symbols - as well as instructions relating to the geometry - of Tibetan Buddhist iconography. I love how colouring this beautiful book is meant to be an interactive experience.

Lovely book, marred by lack of illustrative guide on the correct colours to use in the pictures
The book is lovely. The only problem is there is no illustrative guide so you have no idea what colours should be used to colour in the pictures. Instead, you are referred to a website for this information, and from thence to another link which is actually Pintrest. So I had to join that, after which I was faced with the author's two other websites, with no easy reference for your use, just lots of the author's artwork. As someone studying tibetan buddhism and very new to buddhism, I bought this book for a purpose. I need to know the right colours to use, otherwise what is the point? I have now contacted the author about this, and am awating his response.
