Good reference

I’ve been taking German classes and getting frustrated because there were some things I wouldn’t understand, after starting with this book everything makes sense.

The book is well organized and the explanations are clear; however, there is no section on possessive articles, which is a strange omission. As someone else noted, the quiz on gender incorrectly identifies the word “Mädchen“ as being feminine when it is, in fact, neuter. Overall, it will surely be useful, but I can’t give it a very high rating for the reasons stated.

The workbook itself is easy to follow with concise explanations and lots of examples. There are also blank pages in each chapter that are good for taking notes, making declension tables, etc. I do have to deduct a star unfortunately for the Mcgraw Hill companion app that is advertised with it. right off the bat it asserted that the singular definite article for "Mädchen" is "die". And that's a pretty basic word to mess up. With an error like that in the very first exercise of the app, I don't feel I can trust it. German is hard enough and I can make plenty errors on my own without picking them up from unreliable apps.

This book of German grammar drills is truly terrible: a complete and utter waste of money and time. Had I looked through it earlier upon purchasing, I would have returned it to Amazon immediately. The grammar drills start off at 100 miles per hour without giving sufficient information or providing any helpful blocks of German vocabulary upon which to build. Further, the very first chapter contains drills on information that is not introduced until the second chapter. Don't waste your money and increase your level of frustration by buying another German study guide that will get you nowhere fast.

Its like A2 level.. not really for beginners level. Anyway, still good and some good explanation

Ich nutze es, um einem englischen Mädchen Deutsch beizubringen. Ich hatte noch weitere Bücher bestellt, aber dieses hier finde ich am besten. Es erklärt die Grammatik in Englisch, was sie so gut verstehen kann, und bietet dann zu jedem Grammatikteil sehr viele Übungen. Hinten im Buch findet man dann noch die Lösungen. Gut, diese brauche ich nicht, da ich fließend Englisch und Deutsch spreche, aber falls jemand autodidaktisch als englischer Muttersprachler Deutsch lernen möchte, ist das natürlich sehr hilfreich. Der Grammatikteil ist auch gut erklärt.

I received the book today and downloaded the Language Lab app since it says on the book you can listen to the exercises answers on it. The app has not been updated with the 4th Edition book, it only has the 3rd Edition, which does not include any listening material. I will still be using the book since I bought it to improve my grammar skills but it was disappointing to see the app has not been updated with some of the bonus features it advertises on the cover.

I *thought* my university German was pretty decent, if a bit rusty, but I was wrong. I'm only a short way through this book so far (lesson 20 out of 200+) but I have learned a lot. Everything is explained with examples and exceptions, followed by a few practice exercises, with answers in the back. It can be rather daunting, but I am slowly going through it and I believe my understanding of German is improving along with my fluency.
